First Dual Format HD/SD disk released
First, this is not a dual sided Combo, but rather a single sided disk with one layer HD and the other SD.

This HD DVD release of 'Freedom 1' is unique in several ways: not only is it the first anime title to be released on HD DVD in the US, but it's also the first US-release of a "Twin-Format" HD DVD/DVD disc. Not to be confused with double-sided HD DVD/DVD combo discs, twin-format discs can contain up to three layers of recorded content on a single-sided disc. 'Freedom 1' uses two of those layers -- a 15GB HD DVD layer, and a 4.6GB standard-def DVD layer. Bandai Visual's Anime 'Freedom: 1

Now if we could have this with a Dual layer HD and a Single layer SD on the same side....

Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet) 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

Re: First Dual Format HD/SD disk released
I'd be all over this if it wasn't a $40 SRP for 25 minutes of animation. Japanese anime prices are crazy.
Jay's Movie Blog - A movie-viewing diary.
Transplanted Life: Sci-fi soap opera about a man placed in a new body, updated two or three times a week.
Trading Post Inn - Another gender-bending soap, with different collaborators writing different points of view.
"What? Since when was this an energy ball movie?" - Overheard during a screening of Takashi Miike's Dead Or Alive
"What the hell religion are you people?" - Overheard during the Captain Marvel serial at SF/29
"If I feel even one bullet hit me, I will rip your lungs out through your nostrils!" - Ron Silver as himself, "Heat Vision And Jack"

Re: First Dual Format HD/SD disk released
Title and Cost aside, what I thought was interesting with this news is the fact that it is a single sided HD DVD/SD DVD hybrid. I did not even know they were even working on this.

Interesting indeed seeing as how the most i had hear was that they would have HD DVD on one side, and DVD on the other...and i was fine with that

Re: First Dual Format HD/SD disk released
Now I know what that setting on my A2 is for - the Twin Format option with DVD or HDDVD as the possible options
I am guessing it is to identify which layer to play, given a single sided SD and HD DVD disc
Cool
HD DVD in the house
