What is with these studios!?

It annoys me to no end seeing these poorly thought out releases of good movies. Why release ONLY theatrical versions of movies that've had extended/director's cuts floating around for years!? Terminator 2 (BD), King Kong (HD), Dune (HD). Are there others? We should keep a list. King Kong wouldn't bother me so much if the SD-DVD weren't split on 2 discs. Who hell wants to swap discs when there should be a single disc HD/BD release!?

This is why I'd also like to see some other movies promptly released on HD-DVD; namely Titanic, Green Mile, and Storm of the Century. This is the 10th anniversary of Titanic. Am I the only one that thinks we should see an anniversary release on HD/BD by the end of the year?

And what's with the release of Payback? Of all the director's cuts to release, why bother doing an HD release of that? Kris Kistofferson isn't even in that version. It's almost a different movie entirely!

So can anyone verify which version of some of the other multi-version titles are currenlty released/scheduled for HD/BD? I'm looking to get an HD-DVD player first. These are a few titles that caught my eye: Army of Darkness (6/26/07)? Lethal Weapon 1-2? Dawn/Land of the Dead? Chronicles of Riddick?

Re: What is with these studios!?

This is what amuses me most about the 'fanboy' arguments about storage capacity on certain formats . I mean Sd-Dvd promised multiple versions of movies on one disc for years yet apart from the 3-cut Ultimate Edition T2 I struggle to think of any other release which delivered .

Does anyone really believe anymore that the shiny new disc in their hand is going to be the last time they have to buy an 'Ultimate' version of a favourite film ?

Studios are greed machines . Unlike most industries they forego quality control on new product in favour of the cash cow of reissues

Mind you , if New Line get their act together with LotR and 7even , I'm in

I have just two words to say to you..... Shut the f*** up !

nor did director helgeland, mr. gibson or paramount say anything different then this.

personaly i really like this new version and that paramount gave us the chance to see this new cut. sure, paramount could've released the film on a 2 disc set with both cuts.

Whether or not we "should see" an anniversary release, anyone familiar with the history of Titanic on DVD shouldn't expect one soon. These things don't happen until James Cameron is available to devote his attention to them, and he's going to be occupied full time making Avatar for the next two years.

I think you just answered your own question.

Gimme a goddamn break here. I was looking around CC today and took a peak at the Lethal Weapon HD-DVDs. They're theatrical cuts too!

I really can't justify spending the money on an HD-DVD player (Xbox addon or otherwise) until some stuff I'd really wanna buy gets released. Star Wars or Dirty Harry would be enough for me. Others on my wishlist include: Titanic, Escape from LA, Scarface, Armageddon, The Rock, American Pie 1-3 (UNRATED), etc.
