Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan
Actually, I believe it was top-down decision to support Bd at Warner Bros. but I could be wrong.
Anyone who is bothered by Warner Bros. 'timed' exclusives could always purchase a relatively inexpensive Toshiba player and be enjoying the best of both formats, including the Universal exclusives. There are simply too many compelling titles in both formats to allow all of this format war nonsense to stand in the way of being able to view films in our HTs in the best possible manner, IMHO.

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan
Walter,
For me it's waiting for a Bluray player to go to the $300 level. And preferably one that allows imports. If that were to happen I'd probably put off the planned subwoofer purchase for this holiday season and add Blu to the hometheater. There are definitely some titles on Blu I'm interested in. But right now, I'm completely satisfied with HD-DVD and I've found more exclusives on HD that were must haves for me.
As far as Warners is concerned - they were in full support of DVD when it first came out - I remember they had the most titles available for some time in the early days. And yes - they do have ties to Toshiba. So I don't think it will come to anyone's surprise if at some point they were to go HD-DVD exclusive. Of course HD-DVD would have to make some significant gains for that to happen because Warners, like every other corporation, is obviously most concerned with money. And right now they can't exclude BD in that pursuit.
Cheers,
Jason

^^^^
Especially since they sell more Blu-ray copies than HD DVD copies of their titles.

Peter,
Can you post figures on that? I'm curious to see just how many copies of Warners films are being moved on Bluray as opposed to HD-DVD.
Cheers,
Jason

Did you think they'd say: we'll lose?
HD DVD "coexisting" w/BD is a win.

Yeah, the PS3 is a bomb, yet still packs a wallop on weak knee/glass chin HD DVD. I also believe the PS3 will do better in the near future (holidays). And yet, when Sony was saying #'s like 8 million in '06 & PS3 sales = 20 million BD devices in homes; will win the war, I never saw that happening. And it has yet to happen.

I wouldn't bet on either format, today.

lol All this time I have been saying "death knell" and not knowing it. Actually, I guess I was being too literal as what I was trying to say was that this past week's numbers in and of themselves weren't indicative of a "death knell", but if the trend continued they'd knelling all over the place come Q4.

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan
Youch. Well I make up 1 of those meager HD-DVD numbers for The Departed and Happy Feet. And I love 'em both!
Interesting to see how close the numbers are on Superman Returns and how wide the margin is on Departed and Happy Feet. Wonder why. Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Jason

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan
Of those three I only own The Departed (which is great). I would have purchased Happy Feet if they included TrueHD like on the HD DVD. They are also rereleasing Superman Returns on BD with PCM and TrueHD tracks soon, so I might actually pick that one up. Looks like it is a bundled with Pioneer player exclusive for a bit though.
