And the Blockbuster situation. Obviously the PS3 owner is like the DVD owner. Buys mostly new releases, some catalog, and rents.
Sorry, but the numbers don't bare this out. If they did, we would see a 10 to 1 conent sales ratio that corresponds to the 10 to 1 hardware ratio.

Granted, there are probably 200k to 300k buyers who purchased the PS3 as a BD player, but I would seriosly doubt it is much higher than that.

  • Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet)
  • 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down
  • New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

I'm not sure why you offer that as a possible explanation.

There was no increase. The numbers flux every week a couple percentage each way depending on what was released that week. So far there is no pattern other than sales are pretty much stagnant for both. It has been at these numbers for the entire year with the exception of a couple huge title release weeks.

The movie cracks me up, man! Just caught it a few weeks ago. Jeff and John just nail it. Looking forward to the HD disc. Probably get it in the November DD 20% off. Purchased too many discs in the last couple weeks. Need to let my wife's blood pressure return to normal first.

Cheers,

Jason

Thats the beauty of being single. The only one bugging me is the IRS.

Oh and by the way, my wife bought me my Pioneer Elite plasma for my engagement gift!
Imagine my surprise:

So I can hardly complain if I can't buy a 13th HD-DVD in just over 2 weeks.

Cheers,

Jason

Hey if a woman bought me a Pioneer Elite plasma I'd have to think about marring her too! Now if she could

Weird the guys crowing about a 2% increase were snickering at me a few days ago when I mentioned each week the "since inception" number moves a couple percent.

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan

Yeah the SI numbers just keep creeping towards the numbers we keep seeing each week. Soon it will be in the 60+/30+.

Next week should be really interesting with HD DVD having 13 new titles out, 11 of which are exclusive while BD only has 2. If they can't beat that week in april with a 52/48 spread, then there is no doubt in my mind that HD DVD will be puttering off the map by the end of the year.

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan

The difference between 64% to 36% and the YTD average is within the statistical sampling error range. There was no change in reality. Statistically 2-1 and 64% to 36% are the same with this sample size. If you see any of these numbers:

BD 64 HD DVD 36
BD 65 HD DVD 35
BD 66 HD DVD 34
BD 67 HD DVD 33
BD 68 HD DVD 32
BD 69 HD DVD 31

Don't think anything of it, they are all the same and the range of fluctuation meaningless, just call it 2-1 and read about something that might be meaningful.
