HMM July 8-14, 2007
Weekly sales: 65/35 - HD shows slight improvement with 7 X the number of BD releases (14/2) and no BD exclusives.
Blu-ray again has 8 of the top 10.
Casino Royale top seller. Gee I wonder who's buying this title so many months after release?

Well, it certainly couldn't be PS3 users, now could it?
Also, Since Inception numbers crept up a point for BD this week.

Glad to see you're coming around.
Seriously though, any Since Inception change is far greater than any weekly variation, on that I think we could all agree. Also, by its very nature, Since Inception changes will happen slowly, so, yeah, they're not going to 'blow your doors off'. I just thought it was worth pointing out though because, frankly, it means more to me than what titles were in the top 10 for the week or whatever.

Agreed. Though I still think we're a long way from the end of the war. In the mean time, I'm going to do a movie marathon - King Kong, Children of Men, 40 Year Old Virgin, Happy Gilmore, The Big Lebowski, Apollo 13, The Bourne Supremacy, The Frighteners, etc. And I'll be salivating until Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Knocked Up, The Bourne Identity, and The Last Starfighter arrive in the next few months!
Cheers,
Jason

Re: Weekly hi def sales numbers - Nielsen/VideoScan
I was reading the other day, that the HD-DVD camp was crowing about the fact that there have been far more releases on HD-DVD compared to Blu-Ray this past quarter. In fact the gap in releases is quite large in favour of HD-DVD. Personally, I don't think that this is something that they ought to be crowing about, rather they ought to be a bit embarassed, considering that even with the help of a far larger release slate this past quarter they still lost out on the sales numbers to Blu-Ray and that too by quite a margin. If Blu-Ray has an almost 70:30 sales lead in a quarter that HD-DVD released far more titles than them, imagine what the sales figures might look like when FOX, MGM/UA titles start releasing and the total releases on Blu-Ray outnumber those of HD-DVD releases.

I think some are so blinded by their fanaticism that they don't even realize what they are shouting about. I agree with your observation. I saw some of those posts where the large number of titles that Universal was dumping was going to be the surge HD-DVD was waiting for. It seemed like, pre-release, it was just a given that HD-DVD would outsell Blu-Ray during those large Universal release weeks (and I sure bought plenty of those Universal titles, but I doubt I represent the average consumer). Most of these catalog titles on either format barely register a blip. I never got why anyone thought that the release of titles like "Meet Joe Black", "Being John Malkovich", "Bulletproof", "Mystery Men", etc... was going to do anything to turn the tide. The quality of some of those titles didn't help much, either. I didn't see the dumping of catalog titles as boosting the format. Quite the opposite.
