Children of Men/The Good Shepherd Combo Replacements!

This is good news for those unfortunate enough to have problems with these discs. My CoM played fine, which makes me wonder how do you firmware fix a physical issue with a disc? Serious question. Anyone know?

I'm guessing the firmware instructs the laser to change its angle slightly in certain circumstances - if player is getting a return like the reflective surface is .25mm higher than it should be because there's too much glue or the glue is uneven, for instance.

But, since Universal is sending out replacement discs, that's not that important here.

One note. This number is only for new replaement requests. If you have already returned your disks to Universal prior to this number being set up, they can not help you. To check on the status of your disks, you are stuck emailing Universal.

The laser pickup has a specific tolerance level that it can accept. (ie it can adjust the alignment to compensate for manufacturing variance.) If the disc is manufactured out of that tolerance level the player won't attempt to play it. The firmware update may have simply increased the tolerance level so that the player will accept a slightly wider level of manufacturing variance.

Mine arrived today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It even came in another Children Of Men HD DVD case and all eventhough I just mailed the disc back in their supplied mailer. There's a sticker on the front of the case that reads: Inspected.

Works flawlessly on my XA-1 with 2.2 installed. This was a really short turnaround and kudos to Universal.

Now the best film of 2006 can be viewed in all it's high def glory at Timobi's home.

Tim, did you send yours in prior to the announcement and phone number posted a few days ago, or before as I did? I can not seem to get a response from Universal.

I emailed them in early May? Then recieved their prepaid mailer around May 12th or so. Mailed it right back.
