Yes, I see your point and region codes sucks a**, but if you "choose HD DVD format", you have titles from Warner, Paramount, Universal, and The Weinstein Company (if we talk about the US).
With Blu-ray, youŽll have the same Warner and Paramount (both have every title "R0") + Fox (all titles region coded), Sony (both "R0" and region coded), Buena Vista/Disney (both "R0" and region coded) & Lionsgate (both "R0" and region coded).
My point here is, that IŽm not sure that should these region codes issues really be THE reason to "choose HD DVD"? Since after all (when talking about region codes), youŽre only "gaining" Universal and Weinstein Company, since both are now HD DVD exclusives. Warner and Paramount doesnŽt use region codes at all.

Re: The Digital Bits - "Officially Blu-ray" Soapbox
Man, I've gotta the internets going at home again. This stuff makes Monday morning pretty unproductive.
Kudos to Mr. Hunt. The amount of grief he's taking for simply having and stating an opinion is quite pathetic. Hang in there Bill.

Re: The Digital Bits - "Officially Blu-ray" Soapbox
I think Bill has a thick enough hide to take the comments being made. Very few have been personal attacks against Bill, but more against his comments. When a public figure, as Bill is, makes a stance on such a volatile subject as this, you have got to expect these type of responses. If you don't want your fingers burnt, don't stick 'em in the fire.

Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet) 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

Would Kudos still apply if the same opinion was pro HD DVD and discounted Blu-ray? We'll never know but I think if we're honest about it, BD supporters wouldn't be defending Bill.

Re: The Digital Bits - "Officially Blu-ray" Soapbox
I'll admit that if the tables were reversed I doubt I'd go out of my way to jump to the person's defense, and the fact that I agree with Bill's analysis for the most part definitely is at play, but I'd like to think I'm mature enough that I wouldn't resort to the immature bs that is going on all over the internets.
There are sites/people out there right now that appear to me to have a bias towards HD DVD. As soon as you see me acting childish toward them feel free to call me out. Until then, perhaps the better course would be to give me the benefit of the doubt.
One thing I'm sure we all agree on. It will be a great day when this chapter is over.

Re: The Digital Bits - "Officially Blu-ray" Soapbox
Like I said, we'll really never know how this would play out Brett if the tables were turned. Childish behavior however is not a good thing....and FWIW, I don't think you're childish at all for supporting Blu-ray.

Reviewing this thread, I can find very few childish comments that have been made (on either side), just very engaged disagreements. We all make choices and we talk with our pocket books. If this has angered someone enough to decide not to go to Bill's site any longer, it is not a childish decision, just a choice. (I will buy nothing with Barbara Streisand because of her very vocal political stances she has taken. I choose not to support her. Nothing childish here.)
If others feel that Bill's comments have alienated them and decide not to visit his site again, it is not a childish thing to do, just a statement they are making. (BTW, I do not place myself in that category. I find Bill's site fun to read, even when I do not agree with him, which is often)
As I have found only a couple of personal attacks on Bill himself in this thread, I think both sides have responded, as you put it, with maturity. Discourse and disagreement is never a bad thing, and makes for engaging conversation.
