'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Notting Hill' receive release dates

Universal seems to be serious about meting their very agressive release promises made a few months ago with the scheduling of two more releases on August 28th.

Quote:
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has added two more catalog titles to its ever-expanding next-gen library, bringing 'Notting Hill'and the 2004 remake of 'Dawn of the Dead' to HD DVD this summer.

Both titles are set to debut on August 28, in full-featured special editions that will mirror the supplements found on their standard-def DVD counterparts. 'Dawn of the Dead' will also appear in its "Unrated Director's Cut" version, featuring nine minutes of additional footage too intense for theaters.
Release news

Also, 'The Hurricane' has been resheduled to August.

  • Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A
  • Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet)
  • 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down
  • New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

Seriously, Universal is putting out an amazing amount of movies. It's like they aim to make the studio support argument moot by putting out as much as Sony, Fox, and Disney put together.

Just Dawn of the Dead for me in this batch. Good to hear it's the unrated cut.

Now if we can just get HD versions of the original DOTD and Day of the Dead which plays on MonstersHD and looks great. Maybe Weinstein will pick up the rights from Starz (formerly Anchor Bay) like they did with Suspiria.

The Collection (Blu-Ray High Definition/DVD)

Pre-orders - BLU-RAY: Akira, The Dark Knight, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Proof, Dr No, For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Incredible Hulk, JFK, La Femme Nikita, Live and Let Die, Planet of the Apes (Evolution Collection), Planet Terror, Poltergeist, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Third Man, Thunderball, WALL E DVD: Budd Boetticher Collection, Popeye the Sailor Vol #3, Warner Gangster Collection Vol #4

Indulge yourself. You won't be unhappy. And with five free HD DVD's from Toshiba (and if you buy from VE, another 5), it is almost like getting the player from 100.00.
