Warners remasters some classics in 4k for pending HD and BD release
Some very good titles, including 'Bonnie and Clyde', the 'Dirty Harry' series and 'Blade Runner'
Quote:
Warner has announced plans to undergo major restorations of a number of its classic catalog titles, in anticipation of future next-gen release on Blu-ray and HD DVD.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio has extensive plans in the works to create 4k restorations of some of its biggest vault titles. That's a quality four times greater than today's more commonly-used 2k resolution, which is standard for most catalog remasters.

Re: Warners remasters some classics in 4k for pending HD and BD release
It annoyed me that the so-called "Ultimate" Matrix set did not contain HD transfers of the Animatrix shorts; however, I have to say one thing for Warners. At least, they are stepping up to the plate and supporting the HD formats, unlike a certain other studio **cough** FOX **cough**. First with some big releases and now with this news of high resolution restorations. I can hardly wait to see the "Bladerunner" set. Kind of odd that they picked "Magnum Force" and "Sudden Impact" for restoration, instead of the first one.

Re: Cool Hand Luke, Bonnie & Clyde & Blade Runner remastered in 4K for HD/BR Release
Thanks for the info. Looks like Warner will continue to lead the way as far as desirable classic catalog films on HD.
[looks crosseyed at Universal, Sony, Disney, Paramount and flips Fox the bird]
Great news about Cool Hand Luke, Bonnie & Clyde and the Dirty Harry films (I really hope that omission of the original in that article was just an oversight).
The Collection (Blu-Ray High Definition/DVD)
Pre-orders - BLU-RAY: Akira, The Dark Knight, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Proof, King Kong, La Femme Nikita, Planet Terror, Raging Bull, Ronin, The Third Man DVD: .................

May I use this opportunity to appeal to our lurking brethren at Warners to include The Wild Bunch in this list of titles getting the full blown restoration and HD treatment.

Hopefully we'll see some classic 70mm and 3-strip Technicolor amongst these.
And hopefully other studios will follow their lead.

This sounds fantastic. I don't mind the wait one bit when this kind of quality is put into the transfers. No more duds like Full Metal Jacket, please..

I thought 4k was standard with their Ultra Resolution process but I could be wrong. I believe all the work Lowry did on the Bond films was 4k.

Great recommendation BTW, which I'll second!
Sad to see a lack of interest in these types of threads. Start arguing over DTS-MA vs. TrueHD vs. PCM, Video codecs, bitrates, HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray and this thread would be 10 pages long by now.
Seems not many people are interested in upcoming content unless there's some object of contention going on. Makes me wonder why some people are into these formats.
