Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) - Bronston epics please!?
It is my understanding that the Weinstein's now own the Bronston film catalog (please "politely" correct me if I'm wrong).
There is no doubt that "El Cid" and "Fall of the Roman Empire" would look STUNNING in HD, this considering that the proper restoration is done and new 1080p masters are created. Does anyone think the Weinstein's will exploit the catalog and eventually give us HD versions of these classic epics?
I'm so down for these having a proper release. 10 years into the dvd format and we still don't even have decent SD releases of these titles. An HD release would be stellar in my view.
What does you all think?

Re: Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) - Bronston epics please!?
I would think that since the Weinstein's presently don't have much of a back catalog, that they'll eventually begin to exploit the little they do have. I think I've heard that the Bronston films are in dire need of serious restoration, so sadly, I don't think we'll see them this year. Let's keep our fingers crossed though!
It would be mighty nice to have an HD-DVD day and date release with the SD-DVD when they do arrive.

Re: Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) - Bronston epics please!?
Another big vote for the Bronston epics on HD-DVD! Particulary El Cid and Fall of the Roman Empire.
Speaking of catalog titles:
It'd also be nice to see Weinstein mine their HK Dragon Dynasty properties. I'd love to have HD versions of Hard Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow I & II, City on Fire, Prison on Fire, A Bullet in the Head, Full Contact, etc, etc.
The Collection (Blu-Ray High Definition/DVD)
Pre-orders - BLU-RAY: Akira, The Dark Knight, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Proof, King Kong, La Femme Nikita, Planet Terror, Raging Bull, Ronin, The Third Man DVD: .................

I second those as well Jim.
I had completely forgotten about the HK Dragon Dynasty catalog.
Hopefully they will come to see that there is an audience out there who would love to have these titles.
I hope they open the floodgates soon.

Re: Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) - Bronston epics please!?
There have been several threads on this site concerning these films-all saying the same thing-"where are these films in HD!"
Does anyone know who and where some one at Weinstein can be contacted so we can all start lobbying for the release of these films?

Same here Reggie.
In other Weinstein news, it seems they've snatched up some more catalog titles:
Weinstein launches new labels
Suspiria in HD would be very cool.

At least from the Variety report "EL CID"is scheduled for release but no dates or sign that it will be in HD.

I know, but the prospect of feature films being relegated as mere bonus materials on $60 video games is a bit depressing.
I will be interested to find out how the A/V quality turns out and if it'll be original language w/subs or since this is aimed at gamers - dubbed only.

Re: Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) - Bronston epics please!?
I honestly cannot see any logical reason why an epic scope film like "El Cid" wouldn't be given an HD release by the Weinsteins alongside the SD counterpart. As I stated earlier, they don't yet have much of a classic library, and it would seem that they'd want to exploit the few they do have that'll translate well to HD. I'm assuming El Cid has undergone the extensive restoration it required, so what better way to show it off than in HD?
To not release the Bronston epics in HD would be seriously dropping the ball, imho. I think they might discover that many HD fans would much rather see these films than something like "School of Scoundrels" in HD.
