A few words about...™ Eternal Sunshine... -- in HD
Universal's HD release of Eternal Sunshine... is a quality effort, with a beautiful image that faithfully reproduces the naturalistic, as well as highly colorful tones and ultra-bright colors, soft shadows and deeps blacks that make up the film's image.
Everything looks correct. Eternal Sunshine... is a film product, and fortunately looks like film. Kudos to Universal for not taking a film product and doing the grain removal thing.
Based on a Charlie Kaufman screenplay that may have received more press upon release than the film itself, Eternal Sunshine... is a tale told in bits and starts, forward and sideways, as the pieces fit together.
Highly entertaining as well as thought provoking, Eternal Sunshine... was one of the most interesting films of the 2004 season. It hits high definition home video losing none of the appeal of the original release.
There is a comment in the included standard def documentary which opines that Kate Winslet oddly plays what might have been the kookier Jim Carrey role, and visa versa. Interesting and true. Joel and Clementine are a couple of brilliantly conceived characters living within a briliant screenplay.
If you've not experienced Eternal Sunshine..., you're in for a high definition treat in all regards. I use the word "experience" as that really is what it is.
Highly Recommended.
