Currently, there is not a better product, only competing products that both show great promise. There is certainly enough room in the market place to support both formats.

I wasn't talking about competing formats!

However, in regard to competing formats, though competition is usually a good thing, there are some of us that can't afford two different HD formats so I feel for those people that have to pick one or another, but will miss out on some of their favorite films on HD because you have some studios being format exclusive.

I understand you were not. Guess it just gave me a lead in for my comment. Sorry if I miss quoted you. Meant no harm by it.

But I don't see the exclusive support by the studios lasting a long time; I believe that the market will financially force them into supporting both formats, assuming they sell well. I am not sure it really makes a lot of difference which format you decide to buy now, because I believe most studios will release their films for both sides. As new formats go, looking at the release schedule for upcoming HD's, either format's releases give us all something to look forward to. It will keep me occupied long enough for this to sort itself out. Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but what I see happening form both sides of the house is certainly encouraging.

One can hope.

Possibly. But the reality is that if the PS3 is a big hit, and the other companies have their players being released at a steady rate, you could see HD DVD going the way of UMD movies. What is the financial incentive that you may sell 10-20,000 units in one format vs. a million or more of the other format? It's conjecture, I know, but it's in the back of every video division's minds.

WOW....

All that space with nothing to fill it with....

The bad news is that we won't be able to compare apples to apples here to see how the 50 gig discs vs the 30 gig disc compare.

I mean it is my understanding that SUPERMAN RETURNS is going on a 50 gig BD but will be using only 30 gig of it like the HD version.

So they never got up to go to the bathroom, never got a drink, never let out the dog and had nothing to eat for 17 straight hours?

I´m not doubting that you are quoting correctly, but I very much doubt that overall accuracy of those stories. It would seem that it is not too big a deal to swap disks on your way back from the bathroom, the popcorn maker, the fridge or whatever.

I can suppose that for search purposes, fans of a particular series like having more episodes on a single disk to find a particluar scene with interest. But to sit for 17 hours without any kind of a break puts new meaning into the term, couch potato.

15, 25,30 50. Who really cares. As long as the picture and sound quality are where they need to be I will buy it. It doesn't make a hill of beans differenceto me if the special features are on a second disk (Don't watch many of em anyway) as long as the feature quality is what should be expected with HD. So far I have seen no problems with the 15GB single sided HD-DVD's, or the latest Single sided BR releases.

Exactly, Lew. Who ARE these people who stay glued to a sofa for 17 hours straight (and what does that sofa smell like?)?
