Re: New Blu-ray titles: Kingdom of Heaven 1st 50 gb dual layer

Hey Peter,

shouldn't the decompression chips for DD be pretty much producing the same "LPCM extraction" in all decoders from the DD compressed signal... though I see what you're saying about other DSP issues like dialog norm etc. BTW, keep in mind that the LPCM from the LD is still getting forced through the receiver's prologic DSP processing... so it's not being represented in a pure form either.

Though in his case he's using the analog output of both his LD and 5.1 analog output from his DVD player (the receiver has 5.1 analog inputs). Yes, there are differences in dacs (I know that for sure) but in this case we've even played around and tried other DVD players and the better sound always stuck with the LD LPCM source (for the most part. some LD titles aren't recorded well as collectors know).

Well, lets say there is indeed "little" differance, between the HD audio formats.
Don't 'we' still want the best???

Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
HD should be for EVERYONE!

Black Hawk Down now appears to have a release date of November 9. I read somewhere that this was earlier delayed as dual layer would be required.

Sorry David, but Amir can't be considered a good source of information on MPEG-4 AVC. I'm not saying that he is lying, all I am saying is that he would never point out AVC advantages and VC-1 disadvantages. He is the greatest competitor to AVC, so he's opinions would be like Bill Gates' opinions on Linux.

I dunno, I think Amir has an excellent track record. I don't think he would say anything that he knew to be untrue, especially if he would just be proven wrong in the future.

Who would prove? AVC is available today, not on these discs, I know, but it is the same that will be used on them.

As with any stong monetary rivalry, you must take what a competitor says of his/her competition with a big handful of salt. As has been said before they are not in the business of faulting their own products. Like any politician they'll wrap their answers with half-truths and spin.

Re: New Blu-ray titles: Kingdom of Heaven 1st 50 gb dual layer

interesting info from digitalbits rumor mill

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html#092006

" And on the high-def end today, our sources are telling us to expect Sony Picture Home Entertainment to release more than the already anticipated two titles on 50 GB BD-ROM media before the end of 2006. Speculation as to which titles to expect has included such films as The Guns of Navarone, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia and Black Hawk Down, based on previous studio press comments. Watch for official announcements soon.

On a related note, 20th Century Fox has already announced the 50GB Blu-ray release of Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut (due 11/14). We're told by sources that additional 50GB titles are expected to be announced by Fox for release before the end of the year, possibly including ID4: Independence Day and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Additionally, we're being told to expect at least one other studio to release titles on 50GB BD-ROM media before the end of the year.
