the Adventures of Robin Hood on HD DVD "An Event coming sooner than some may think."

from the robert harris with ned price interview posted at the bits today mostly concerning the searchers but a nugget at the end ....

" I have learned something tangentially while putting this piece together,
that I find extremely exciting. When The Adventures of Robin Hood arrives
not too far in the future in HD, it will have, among other extras,
the Looney Tunes that were part of the 2003 SD release,
now fully restored from the original SE negatives and,
like the feature, will be in high definition.
The release should be the first classic film in 1.37 to arrive in HD,
and the premiere of Looney Tunes in HD.

An Event coming sooner than some may think."

i cant wait.

How will the 4:3 HD content be stored on HD-DVD? Black bar on two sides?

This is a MAJOR event: "The Adventures of Robin Hood" on HD DVD. (Those of you who are preparing to whine because "it's a 67-year-old movie" can go to another thread NOW.)

One of the most eye-searing movie-going experiences of my life was seeing a pristine three-strip Techicolor print in a theater MANY years ago. The color saturation was unearthly, as befits the legendary theme of the story.

HD as in High Definition.

Both formats (BD & HD DVD) will see this release.

Good news. Anything filmed is prime candidate for HD. Higher resolution, better color.

And yes, Ryan, they will be "pillarboxed" with black bands at the sides to preserve the OAR.

Hopefully WB ports over all the extras and the mono track. I can't wait to get my hands on this one. One of my all-time favorite DVDs.

The release of films like The Searchers and Adventures of Robin Hood are threatening to push me off the HD-DVD fence. And that's a good thing.

I jumped off today. "The Searchers" will be my first HD title.
