Re: Just WHY do people buy films on HD?
No apologies needed.
Like I said, I agree with your sentiment for the most part. Especially coming from the perspective of someone who wants to see the format succeed. I think both formats need a lot of huge, big name titles to push the hardware to the general public. Stuff like Batman Begins, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates. You're right: Serenity and The Thing probably aren't likely to attract the general public (which is the point I think you're trying to make), but those titles are appealing to many of the early adopters.

Re: Just WHY do people buy films on HD?
Treasure Island is the name of the movie, thanks JediFonger. That movie worked the heck out of the subs and some really good surrounds. Any hoot when I get into HD on DVD (HD-DVD most likely or BD) and they presented a movie like that with an immaculate picture like Ray, I'd get it again just for the video.

Are you sure you guys aren't talking about CUTTHROAT ISLAND? It was one of the first films released on DVD, and I bought it, too.

1. Because you genuinely love movies and you want to see them with the very best possible picture and sound quality. You're only buying turds like Happy Gilmore and Fast And The Furious 2 because you're interested to see what the new format is capable of.

Yes on the first part of the comment, and I don't own or plan getting the HD DVD versions of H-Gilmore & FF2!
Sahara, Serenity, Phantom of the Opera, Bourne Supremacy, Rundown & Sky Captain do look glorious & crystal clear on my 56" 1080p Toshiba 56HM195 DLP HDTV @ 7.5' away!!!

My setup is not real expensive, ... as a previous Audio / Video dealer, I used my experience & contacts to get the best price vs. performance HT setup, ... then it doesn't hurt to have glorious HD DVDs to demo the 1080p Video & DD+ (coming soon TrueHD) 5.1 Audio @ -10 dB below REF Level!!!

I hope I can pass on Cutthroat Island again Larry. It's not that bad...but it's got some great audio
|
I'd probably buy it again if it was released on HD DVD.
