Give it a go Lou! Might work better a second time?

I have a DVD reviewing gig with EyeCraveDVD and told them I could review HD DVDs. Guess what my first assignment is?

You got it! MI:3.

I am going to get to know this movie very well.

BTW I liked 2 better than 1.

Now I have to decide what format to buy MI on? One hand there is HD-DVD with the Dolby Digital Plus track, ehhhhh. Then there is the Bluray with no lossless track. So mmmm do I buy this movie or just toss it on the waiting list for another HD release down the road?

Not me. Already ordered the ultimate pack, all three movies. This is only the second (out of 30 HD movies I own) purchase that is actually a new film in my collection, and not a replacement of a SD version.

  • New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

I'll keep it short - this film looks simply great on my 128" screen! I'd love to see it on a 1080 pj but as it stands, even at 720 this is one colorful movie with great blacks and detail. Night shots are wonderful too. The Lamborghini ( Murcielago?) they used stood out like a sore thumb - in a positive way! Those of you eagerly anticipating MI3 on HD will love it.

Hey Brent, just curious, what PJ do you have? And is your screen the Firehawk? Great news about the tech side to this disc.

Yeah, chalk it up to the Thandie Newton factor. She is gorgeous.

I'll let you know when the review is up. Thanks for asking.

Tim - The screen I'm using is a Carada Criterion 2:35 ( Brillant White ). As for the pj, I went with a Hitachi HDP J52. Still plenty of brightness left but I really would not go any larger in my setup as even at 18 ft. back I can detect the pixel structure at times, not enough to be bothersome. After watching something like MI3 in HD it makes going front projection the best home theater move one can make. Anything under 110" is just too small in my experience! I should have checked out the extras on the second disc since most of them are in HD as well, next time I fire up the pj I'll go over them.

I would love to own MI on HD especially since I only have MI:2 on DVD & LD. The one thing holding me back is as soon as I buy it I bet they come out with a lossless version within two years if not sooner, that would get my blood flowing! And it does not help that nether HD format has anything better than standard digital surround for these movies in 1080p HD.

Sounds like a GREAT setup Brent. Jealousy running rampant here
