The "To be" and "The not to be" released in hd on dvd

The Lord Of The Rings movies or Kung Pow (Enter the fist!)? What process or considerations play a role in the decision making of what movie titles are graduated to the honor of being released on dvd in the high definition format? Some of what is presently offered in high definition to the potential customer is that of which I wouldn't choose to purchase. Will every title ever sold previously on standard dvd be offered in hd dvd or blu-ray?

When releasing a new format, you want to cover all the bases.
Of coarse, you can not actually do that, as few titles come out right out of the gate.
See the titles first released on D-VHS, to get a glimpse into the madness of their method! ;-)

Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
HD should be for EVERYONE!

I think a lot of it will be due to running out of stock on an existing title, along with a demand for more of that same title. Of course, when the new 'batch' only comes out in an HD format, anyone that wants one will only have one choice. Let us hope that player prices are down to a reasonable level before that happens.

And of course, huge titles like LOTR will be reserved for holiday season to maximize the sales.

And they'll wait on their heavy hitters until there is a bigger installed base of owners... that can be said for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

The thing that bugs me about studios using this reasoning is: wouldn't it be better to put out a big title very early to help attract more people to the new format and grow the installed base of owners more quickly?

Then 12-18 months later (or whatever) they can release a "special edition" of the title and sell it to the larger base of customers AND some of the people who bought the first release.

Why don't they do this? Is it something lame like they don't want people to complain about having to "double dip"? Anyone complaining about "double dipping" in a situation like this needs a kick in the ..... ! Early adopters WANT great titles to play on their expensive new decks, and should understand if a "first release" title they bought shows up all shiny and "new and improved" a year or so later.

Isn't this preferable to not having those big titles at all for a 1-2 plus years?

Grrrrr!

Yes, it's the old chicken and the egg problem.

Market is a huge issue.

You can pratically guarantee that both Spiderman movies will be available upon PS3 release.

Either then or next summer when Spider-Man 3 hits the theaters.
