How is it opinion when it is clearly stated
in the petition that the majority of this information is hearsay from internet message boards and blogs?

The petition seems specifically designed to bring these potential problems to light - "outing" them (or just the possibility that they may seem to exist) for both the studios and other decision-makers to see.

No, it's specifically designed as a smear campaign. This isn't a petition so much as fan-based attack, supported--at the very least with signatures--by those who stand to make a profit off of HD DVD. Every sucessful petition is based on fact, not rumor, yet half of these "potential problems" come from a forum with definite HD DVD industry representation, if not advertisement. And it fails to mention any of the shortcomings of the format (duplication problems, lack of CE support, existing shortcomings and problems with hardware and software, etc.). Using my previous examples, "Star Wars" fans admitted the existence of the OT on laserdisc and VHS, and "Veronica Mars" fans were more than willing to admit poor ratings.

Just because some of the information came from insider discussions on AV forums does not mean that it is "false" information, only that it has not been formally confirmed.

No, but it is internet hearsay, which is roughly equivalent to the "National Enquirer" to those who actually make important business decisions worth billions of dollars.

The petition clearly seeks to prod the studios into getting to the bottom of the issues themselves - which they are perfectly capable of doing - and making their own judgement calls.

sometimes folks at various levels in a company are not aware of "everything" that may be going wrong over at a different company.

Any studio that's not already
more aware of any problems with either format has greater problems than picking the losing side. Anyone who believes that there isn't anyone in the management strata of the studios that knows as much if not more than we do is fooling themselves.

Most of the "advice" given by non HD DVD supporters here has been to remove any and all discussion of these potentially damaging bits of information.

Really? Point out where anyone explicitly asked that this discussion be removed. The majority of the comment has been directed to towards the speculative (and manipulative) nature of the petition and it's spreading across several posts/forums.
