I just watched Unforgiven on regular DVD three days ago. I can't imagine a better movie with a worse PQ, I really hope they've restored the film for its HD transfer.

Which version did you watch? The early single disc version is pretty horrible, but the 2-disc special edition is very good.

Probably the 1-disk (it looked bad), I ordered from Netflix, so I didn't look at the box.

Greetings

Isn't FMJ a 1.33 aspect ratio film shot with a mono sound track? Hardly seems like the great demo material we'd like.

Re: Unforgiven, Full Metal Jacket 5/16

FULL METAL JACKET was remixed for its last DVD incarnation in 5.1 with the co-operation of the Kubrick estate, and was released theatrically with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. I believe the HD-DVD will be widescreen.

Regardless, even if it was mono and 1.33:1, that doesn't mean the film would automatically look or sound bad. And in the end, is this supposed to be about watching good movies in the best possible presentaion at home, or giving "demos" of your home theater system?

Incidentally, Robert Harris mentioned in another thread that WB is working on several non-widescreen classics (such as the 1930s Technicolor ROBIN HOOD) for HD-DVD release- it that automatically a bad thing, too, since those films will be mono and 1.33:1?
