3 months out and my Sony BDP-S300 is crapping out. :(

I just got this player in June and last night out of nowhere discs began freezing, pixelating and the player locks up and won't responde to my remote.

I went online to Sony and IM'd with one of their tech guys and he walked me through steps to reset the player etc with no luck, so now I need to send it in for repair.

The good news is that it won't cost me a red cent since it's still under warrety and I can ship it for free via UPS from my job. My question to you guys is, what kind of turn around time am I looking at here?

It sounds like the optical pick-up is going and it shouldn't take that long but i'm wondering if others here have had similar problems with their players and if so how long did it take you to get the player back?

Moreover was your problem resolved once you did get it back?

Thanks.

Wow, that sucks John. I have had the 300 for a year and a half, no problems (knock on wood). So, i cant offer you any help. I always do the extended warranty with new tech. Makes me glad i have one for my 300, and 350.

Bummer. I've had my 300 for at least a year or more, and no problems. Several firmware updates too & works like a charm.

Any chance it was a power spike? I had a surge once and it destroyed my DVD player. I had a replacement fast (2 - 3 weeks), no questions asked. I bet Sony will take care of you faster than you think. Good luck.

Thanks. There was no power spike, I was watching a DVD on it and it just froze out of nowhere, no interruption of power at all and the player exibited no problems like this before.

I got everything ready to go, got it boxed and UPS labled with a copy of the receipt inside and a description of the problem sheet. It doesn't have to go that far from me so that's good I suppose, that should cut down on shipping time at least.

It sucks because I was looking foreward to getting Iron Man at the end of the month. Ah well, i'll still get it and have it when I get the player back.
