Sharp BD-20u question...........

I knew that my newly purchased Sharp 20u decoeded DD+ & DD HD for analog output and it is doing so very nicely to my ears.
I was sure it DIDN'T decode DTS HD or DTS MA.
I had been renting movies with PCM or DD HD soundtracks and then I finally rented a movie encoded with DTS HD 6.1 (Total Recall)

When I hit the display it showed it as:
'DTS HD 6.1' !!!

I had expected it to simply show it as 'DTS' since I thought it can't decode DTS HD.
Why would it flag the disc as DTS HD 6.1 if it can't decode that format?

Is it possible the Sharp DOES decode DTS HD?
Or does it simply recognize them but not decode them. What a tease!

The various sites don't make it clear if it does DTS HD. Some say yes, some no.
Any owner or expert know the true answer?

By the way, I'm not taking about DTS MA--just DTS HD.

Thanks a lot to all !!

Re: Sharp BD-20u question...........

Well, i tried a DTS HD MA soundtrack movie and the Sharp also correctly flagged it as such.
I think it's very cool that it does that even if it doesn't decode them.

The DTS MA soundtrack was awesome sounding even if it was taken back to 'DTS-core'

But there must be some Sharp BD-20 owner out there who knows for sure if it decodes the DTS HD regular.

Thnaks.

Re: Sharp BD-20u question...........

I took a look at a spec sheet for the HP-20BDu. The spec sheet indicates that the player can decode DTS HD. It is just unable to decode DTS HD MA.

Re: Sharp BD-20u question...........

Thanks Edwin.....

I had read it decoded DTS HD in some places and I'm glad to hear it confirmed.

So I got DD+. DDTrue & DTS HD decoding through the 5.1 analog outputs for under $400 & 18 months no interest. Really happy with the player and not a single glitch on my first 18 rented discs!

by early 2010 prices on both players and recievers will be down & I'll upgrade to a set-up that gives me DTS HD MA as well.

Happy to be finally Blu !!!!
