Okay, I bought a Toshiba HD A3, please help with what's next.

I couldn't find it around where I live, then I ask my sister in law to pick it up at Walmart for 75.00 bucks. The last one was sitting there and she picked it up for me. Do I need to do any firmware addition of should it work right out of the box? Thanks for the responses.

Hook it up and see how it performs. I have an A2 that I have yet to do any firmware updates and it works fine for anything I have asked it to do.

I picked one up about a month back and it has firmware 1.3 while the most recent is 2.0, I believe. I haven't installed it yet (will be rearranging a few setups in the house and it will be set up in April or May, I suspect) though I did hook it up to make sure it worked. I had no issues updating my A2 firmware, so I will likely update this one as well. Just be aware that if you don't update it, you may experience difficulties with newer titles (released in the last 6-8 months) though you may well have one with the latest firmware. The manual explains how to check it--it's pretty easy.

It will work right out of the box (my A30 did), but I've since upgraded to firmware 2.0 with no difficulties. I'd heard of others having difficulties, but I found a good freeware .iso burner and am working on getting a wireless game adapter to connect to my wireless network for future updates and live content.

Well, the cable was too short but I used it and the machine in a different location. Anyway I must say, I'm glad I got this machine. Until I get a 6 foot cable I won't know how it really sounds. I'm using the analog connection for now but I must say the picture is absolutely incredible. Watching Bourne Identity a little bit and the wet suit looked like I could almost touch it. I hooked the player to upto the Sony rptv and the black levels was I mean black. My wife thought it was a little dark but when I brighten the picture she was like wow. Scaling I thought was far better than the Zenith, glad I moved it upstairs to the 37 inch LCD, the wife loves the picture, she watched 3 straight movies. Now I just need some cheap HDMI cable so I can move the A3 to the rack.
Too bad this machine will no longer be made. A little slow in pickup but I really enjoy the picture. I'll get some HD-DVD movies hopefully cheap and sit back and relax. Now if only Bluray can come down a little bit.

Blue Jean Cables--I got 25 feet for 26$ delivered to my Canadian address. Works flawlessly.

Enjoy your HD-A3. I'm probably going to get one as a backup for my HD-A2. $75 is a good deal.

One good thing is Toshiba makes damn nice dvd players. So, you should be enjoying this one for awhile to come. Even if you can't pick up many HD DVDs the sd dvds will also look amazing. That alone makes this player worth it. Congrats on the smokin deal. It's always great to hear people lovin thier toys
