BD player that scales all output to 1080p60?

Is there such a player?

The PS3 I have only outputs film 1080p material in 1080p60 and upconverted DVD. SD BD material (like bonus features on some BDs) and 1080i is output in native form.

I just inherited a JVC HD2K projector which only accepts 1080p60 so I need to find a BD player that can scale *all* output to this single stream.

Recommendations?

thanks!

dave

p.s. profile 1.1 is important, but I don't personally need to wait for 2.0 BD-live if the price is reasonable.

Are you absolutely sure about the 1080P exclusive bit? I have never seen a projector that is that limited.

The JVC 1080p HD2K had a separate "processor" box from the projector head. The PJ head only accepts 1080p 60 as the processor box was where all the "processing" took place. Problem is that the obsolete Faroudja processor box didn't accept 1080p input since it was designed before BD/HD DVD sources.

David,

Congrats on the new projector. I think the Panny BD-30 does what you want, but as my TV is only 1080i I can't verify. Now that I think of it, it must be upconverting SD BD material to 1080i or I'd notice a re-sync. So that's a sign that it might do the same for 1080p upconversion.

In that case...if you need someone to take that old PS3 off your hands, well I'd be glad to help you out!

Scooter,

let me think on that.

I may need to keep the PS3 for now since I review for DVD file and might need to talk about the occasional BD-live feature... until I upgrade to the Panny BD50 later this summer.

Congrats on your new Panny, Dave!

Ay what price did you get it (if that's not confidential)?

Re: BD player that scales all output to 1080p60?

I did the "walk into best buy and get one off the shelf" routine as I wanted to have a functioning video image that night and didn't want to wait for anything to ship.

With tax the price of the Panny came to a little over $500.

That's just a little more than the price of a new bulb for my 720p DLP projector... so I rationalized the upgrade very easily. ;-)

BTW, DTS-HD MA lossless sounds INCREDIBLE now that I'm bitstreaming to my receiver. Fox BDs are transformed... as is Hairspray. Wow. Just incredible. I highly encourage anyone on the fence about upgrading their system to include (both TrueHD and) DTS-HD MA decoding to do it. You'll be amazed!
