MAJOR DTS MA problem with onkyo receivers! Please read!

**WARNING** DTS Masters bitstreamed can cause speaker damage!!! - AVS Forum

have the onkyo 605 receiver. it can bitstream DTS MA to the panasonic 30 bluray player. more info about titles at the bottom of the page.
there is an 800 number to call. 800-229-1687. when you call: press 4 and then 2. you will speak with Don. Once you have talked with him he will transfer you to a top person that can help. its important that consumers of the onkyo call them and let them know if they are having problems. the more that people say something.. the better that they can look into it.

thank you
Jacob

Anyone using a Yamaha or Onkyo/Integra receiver or pre/pro should use extreme caution when bitstreaming DTS MA.

Users are reporting a loud "POP" that is described as a loud firework or gunshot when using one of the above listed receivers AND bitstreaming DTS MA. This can damage your equipment!!!
The theory is certain receivers have a faulty DTS decoder chip and when coupled with a DTS MA track that has been authored a certain way will cause this issue.
It is unknown at this time if the receivers can be fixed via a firmware or may need a more involved matter like shipping your unit in for a hardware change. A german website is reporting Yamaha has already offered a fix. (post #277 translated from a German website linked below)
The good news is, DTS appears to be aware of the issue and can author its disc's so it wont trip up your receiver. (post #277 translated from a German website linked below)
In the mean time, I highly recommend anyone using any of these receivers to NOT listen to any bitstreamed DTS MA material.

Here's a list of reported titles causing this issue:
**note** There are certainly other titles that have not been discovered yet.
1408
Golden Compass(review copy)
The Fly
Chronos
Fantastic Four
Hannibal Rising (HD DVD)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Eagles Fairwell Concert (HD DVD)

Be aware that just because you played any of these titles, does not mean that you don't have a problem as it appears some have been fixed.
"The Fly" seems to be the definitive test that no one with stated equipment can pass.
Test at your own risk, as even playing at low volumes will cause a loud bang that can cause damage!!!

Time or described scenes where the "BANG" occurs:
-The Fly (At the beginning of the movie when Jeff Goldblum goes to the magazines office, the main editor greets him and then walks out of his office door leaving Jeff Goldblum and Gina Davis in the office. Right when the door closes the audio goes ballastic.)-jsmiddleton4
-Fantastic Four (Its the first scene where Reed and Victor are negotiating in his office. Right around the time they shake hands on the 75/25 deal.)-strange_brew
-Chronos (near the end of the movie arouind 38:50 to 38:55 (38:52 exactly I think) where the camera is looking up at the cathedral ceiling with the lights shining thru)-kinglerxt
