Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
Now here's the ultimate dumb... I just bought a Pioneer 50 inch Plasma and a Samsung HT-TX75 DVD home theater system... Got all excited and bought a couple of HD DVDs...
Here's the rub... I can't make it play the HD DVDs... It tries to load a few times, then, finally gives up and refuses to recognize that it's there... Any Ideas???
Everything works when I use a standard DVD movie...
Can anyone help an old dummy???
Thanks... Tom

Re: Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
you need to make sure you have an HD-DVD player to play the HD-DVD's in. Although, i would suggest blu-ray over HD-DVD since the format war was recently ended. If the home theater system you bought was HD-DVD (which i doubt, not many, if any, have hd-dvd support) I would highly HIGHLY suggest buying a blu-ray player even if the price of HD-DVD players attract you; they are now obsolete. Hope this helps~

Re: Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
It won't play the HD DVDs, because it's not an HD DVD player!
Regular dvd players won't play HD DVDs. You'll have to buy an HD DVD player. You can probably get one cheap, now that Blu ray has won the format war........

Re: Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
Your Sansung HT-TX75 is a DVD player and will not play HD-DVDs.
Either swap out the HD-DVDs for regular DVDs or you can pick up an inexpensive HD_DVD player out there to play your HD-DVD discs, a choice I wouldn'd recommend at this point unless you are really aware of what you are doing.
Recently Toshiba stop producing HD_DVD players and Blu-ray is the only HI-DEF Media choice available today with a future because Movie Studios stopped releasing new titles on the HD-DVD format, only on Blu Ray.

Re: Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
Once again, ONLY an HD-DVD player will play HD-DVDs. This format is on the way to being extinct, since it is no longer being developed or supported by anyone.
I think there's an echo in here.

A Blu-ray player will play DVDs, and Blu-ray discs, but NOT HD DVDs. In case you didnt know Blu-ray discs are also in HD, its just not called HD. They didnt want you to confuse it with HD DVD.
Buy a Blu-ray player, and you will have a beautiful picture. DO NOT buy a HD DVD player. That format died this month. Their will not be any more HD DVDs made after May. Of course its your money, but i would return that DVD player, and buy the Blu-ray since it does a fine job playing regular DVD.

Re: Brand New to HD DVD HELP!!!
I'm seeing some Blu-Ray players on ebay that say they will play both formats, like the Samsung BD-UP 5000 and the LG BH-100 or 200... Anyone know anything about them???

Yes. Those units you list will play HD DVDs, Blu-ray discs & Standard DVDs. Something like those would be your best bet if you want to hang on to your HD DVDs you've already bought.

But do some basic research on those models before selecting one. Some do a better job with HD DVD playback than others.
Moving this to Hi-Def Hardware, where you're more likely to get additional advice.

Only if your into XBOX games. Cause the HD DVD is an add on to the XBOX 360. You said your kind of new to this, so forgive me if i am stating the obvious.
