My recent call to Toshiba customer service.

I picked up a HD-A3 at my local Wal-Mart for $74.98. I decided to buy this second player as a back-up/bedroom unit. I called Toshiba to ask about firmware updates and man, did this guy sound somber. He told me he appreciated my support of the format and to call back if I needed further help. I guess all the customer calls have just about stopped. He answered the phone with "hello" instead of "Thanks for calling Toshiba customer support." I must have surprised him by actually being a customer. He seemed nice enough, just seemed defeated as well. I don't expect any jubilation or anything, it's just sad is all. Makes me wonder how long said support will exsist from now? After April,May???? Oh well. It truely is a great product and I'm glad I at least have it for future use when the format is no longer available.

" I think it's time we go to plan B". "What's plan B?" "That's the one where we don't do something stupid".

Re: My recent call to Toshiba customer service.

I contacted them the other day as well, firmware support will continue "as needed" so I guess that means no new goodies just fixing problems if they absolutely have to.

The guy's probably worried about how long his job will last. He might know already.

Have to admit, at that price the player and a stack of cheap disks are like buying the same disks in Blu.
If the player lasts 2-3 years or more and you have films you'll watch 4-5 or more times, what's to loose?

Any one invested in red would be nuts to ditch the player and media.

The 90 or so on auction paints the picture quite well.
Retailers will hold off punching below their cost for a while.
