Toshiba Releases 2.8 Firmware!

Toshiba has released firmware version 2.8 for the following Toshiba HD DVD players: HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2, HD-A2W, and HD-D2

The update is available now over ethernet on your player. Or, if you prefer, you can download the firmware here and burn it to a CD:

One important change for the XA2 is the implementation of a FORCED 1080p/24 mode! Many XA2 owners have been requesting this feature and Toshiba listened!!

Uups, didn´t notice this one, sorry.

So is it actually "forced" 1080p/24 mode? One thread here:

Some reports..

"It's definately has something to do with MPEG4 encoded movies
because Transformers, Shooter, & Stardust have problems after
2.8. Someone else reported a problem with Zodiac also which is
another MPEG4.

Bourne Ultimatum worked flawlessly for me after 2.8 which was
a VC1 encoded movie.

In summary, FW 2.8 on the XA2 when setting output to 1080p/24
creates all kinds of pq problems(jaggies & moire) with MPEG4
encoded movies only."

Any problems with this update for any of you guys?
