Questions about the Toshiba AC3 Hidef DVD player.

Got the new Toshiba HD player AC 3,, a few questions:
1. Is the AC 3 a step up or a step down from the AC 2 ??

2. My output and picture on my LCD projection TV is Fantastic but I see it is only in 1080i I have never seen it display 1080p.
I have the player hooked up to sony KDF46E2000 via HDMI .. and optical cable (audio) back to my receiver for 5.1 /DTS .

What exactly is the difference between 1080i and 1080p should I be concerned?

3. Why does it take so long ( up to minute) for the player to come on? and quite a few seconds to shut down? Is it like a personal computer?

4. If I stop watching a DVD in the middle and do stop and shut shut down.,, then come back a few hours later or the next day, I have to start the DVD from the beginning again and find that spot where I left off.. Is this normal ? Can't find anything in the manual or menu about this., and my other 3 non HD DVD players in the past Never did this .. ???

I also phoned Toshiba Canada Help line and asked about the firmware..( thinking this is why I have the problem) and was told THERE is no update at this point and to ignore any impulse to get one. Wait a few months and then check the website for any new updates on this.

is this True??

Have you checked the manual to see if you have to set it to output 1080p? Also I don't think the A3 does 1080p. Difference is negligible according to most. You would only see the difference on a large screen and sitting up close. P stands for progressive and paints the screen with the picture in one pass where as I(interlace) does it in 2.

Yes

Check page 25 off the manual for help on that.

Hook your player to the internet and do an update and see if it downloads anything. If the player is working then you have no need to update it unless it is too offer more features.

LOL yeah it is A3KC ( I had AC/DC in my head ... )

don't know if I can edit the title bar..

and also should have mentioned in question #4,, I not only stop, but power off the unit., and page 25 of the manual only mentions if you hit stop and then play again..

Plus I seem to also not find out, where in this model of Toshiba HD, ( A3) can you find out how much of the movie remains,, rather than how much of the movie has played so far..

Re: Questions about the Toshiba AC3 Hidef DVD player.

resume play -- For standard DVD, I believe if you use "play" rather than power to turn on it will allow you to resume where you left off. HD-DVD you need to use the bookmark feature available on many discs (usually hit "B") to save your spot. Unfortunately not available on all discs & the player doesn't auto-bookmark.

time remain -- I don't know if A3 is the same, but on my A2 if you hit the "info" the time remaining appears in the LED display. No option for OSD display, though it appears some HD-DVDs (not all) are programmed to show a time bar on screen if you pause/REW/FF.

Yes I found today that by hitting the display button,, the time remaining is only viewable on the Player itself.. not the TV screen display.,
It fluctuates between display screen and TV screen for the time back and forth...
