Re: Samsung announces combo player

Besides Amazon.com's listing of Jan 15, has anyone found any other retailer that has listed a release date for the player yet?

Here's a few other places:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...00&i=305BD5000

and can anyone translate, this is a German site and it looks like people have reviewed this and it looks like high ratings, must be available there?

Re: Samsung announces combo player

Robert,

That German site is a "marketplace" site. These sites seem to trick the search machines by making them find anything you search for - but it's not there (or not yet there, perhaps). When it exists they give comparitive prices, often only from associated retailers, or paying ones, so you cannot even trust those.

The reviews are about other gear. They have no other info about the shown combo player, not even a price.

Thanks Cees. I also found this which is quite an interesting writing:

Re: Samsung announces combo player

Thanks, Robert!
Looks very interesting indeed. BTW it says the machine is BD 1.1 "ready" and can be upgraded from February on.

If it had appeared in October, as originally planned, I probably might have ordered one already (if I could find a way to import it), but now it makes more sense (I think) to wait for any possible CES announcements.

I just looked it up, and next CES is from 7-10 January 2008 (in Vegas), which is early enough for me to wait for it.

Re: Samsung announces combo player

I know this was discussed but I am still a little unclear about it. I will be using the 7.1 analog inputs on my Sunfire Ultimate Receiver. My receiver allows for distance settings for the speakers so will the issue of the Samsung not allowing for distance settings be a problem?

Also, could the issue of allowing the Samsung to set distance settings be activated through a firmware update?

Re: Samsung announces combo player

Rich,

I will be using the analogue outputs too - at least for a considerable period.
So, let's hope that delay times can be set. It's one of those things we can use to compare this machine against those of other brands, if one or more of those would appear indeed.

Cees

Cees, do you know if this model will send out the Dolby True and DTS HD through the analog outputs as high def sound or downconverted to core and lossy? I hate to spend money on a new receiver right now but I have 15 blu-rays now and it's killing me not to hear the uncompressed tracks. Thank God for all of the PCM tracks. But the Fox discs, Close Encounters, ect, are all core. I am not sure if it is possible to send DTS master to the analogs, I sure hope so, I would assume with an internal decoder it should, but Samsung has been kind of mute on the subject. Earlier in the thread a note posted from Engadgedhd says it will pass the hd tracks, but then some say no. Any opinions? My Denon receiver was made 1 year before HDMI came into being, and I only have 7.1 analog (external) inputs on the receiver, no HDMI.

Re: Samsung announces combo player

Robert,

No, I don't know that for sure either. The text suggests it does output the truly decoded lossless tracks of DTS-HD MA over the analogues, but in case of doubt, I tend to distrust technical specs of manufacturers.

Re: Samsung announces combo player

I was just doing some surfing and came upon a story, not sure if this was mentioned here, but it seems the 5000 will have 1GB of memory, making it upgradable to BD 2.0, this really is future ready:
