I think they will release the 2400, I have the feeling that the specs for bd was the problem. Samsung must know how people like the HQV processor. I think this was just a delay or there may be a new model number soon.

I am not so sure. The announcement specifically stated the Combo unit was delayed and the 2400 was cancelled.

I can wait. The only other choice right now is LG.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

Re: Samsung announces combo player

I don't understand why people think they are going combo only, they just released a new blu-ray player a little over a week ago, that doesn't sound like combo-only to me. Maybe if they had cancelled both, then I would be suspicious. My guess is one of two...first I think it probably is the BD 1.1 deadline, maybe they ran into production problems and could not release the player until after the deadline. I personally don't feel this was a permanent cancellation. Samsung did very well with their first player and especially the 1200, it was highly rated (I owned the 1200 for a while, but returned it during my 30 days return policy when they announced the combi-player) and they know that their HQV processing was a big part of it, so I believe there is still a higher-end player coming...maybe even an announcement sometime soon.

Although the LG has some good specs and features, I liked the 1200 so much I am willing to wait for Samsung's combi.

My guess is, all manufacturers will go combo-only in the end. It's the only sensible solution.
Soon, you will not be able to sell a player that cannot play one of the dominating formats.

O' I don't know... I have a feeling Sony and Toshiba will still sell standalone players for quite some time. Neither will want to be the first to support the other's format.

Re: Samsung announces combo player

I agree with Chris that Sony and Toshiba will be the holdouts, but I think you will see more and more companies going combo. If Sony lowers the prices on the PS3, that is going to squeeze the other BD player companies and I think that they will either OEM Sony boxes or go combo. There isn't enough $$ in it to have everyone re-inventing the wheel on their own.

No Signature...How boring is that!

They will probably keep the current BD player, but in a few months, it won't matter, as their current player will be out of spec.

With the cancellation of their future High end BD player it seems pretty obvious to me that it only a (short) matter of time before they go Combo only. Of course this is speculation on my part.
