1080i vs 1080p from an HD player

Hi all,

Here's my question. My new tv is a Pioneer Elite 50" Plasma (1140HD). Res is 1365x768. Now, is it smarter to purchase the $300 toshiba HD that outputs 1080i or get the $400 108op version, and let the Pioneer downscale to it's native resolution? My point is, is the scaler in the tv better than the HD player.

thanks,

Paul

Greetings

Just a general question ... comment. If you go the A20 route ... make sure the Pioneer actually accepts a 1080p signal (if even for downconversion) ... since not all TV sets out there do.

Traditionally, the scaler in the Pioneer Elites has been exceptional compared to most stand alone DVD players.

The Pioneer does accept 1080p. Independent HDMI® Inputs (10-bit processing) with the ability to accept a 1080p/24Hz signal

Sweet. So i guess that's my answer.

Thank you for your help
