Will all HD / Blu Players use only HDMI?

My home theatre runs component cables from the DVD player (front of room) to the Projector (at the back). Considering an upgrade to HD DVD or BluRay, I am faced with a cable challenge.

First generation HD DVD step down when the signal cannot be verified as going out of HDMI (e.g., the Toshiba HD-A1). Some receivers have an HDMI pass through (e.g, the Sony DG800). I doubt the receiver will pass an HDMI signal to the Component outputs. Yuck.

Is it expected that all (future) bluray and HDVD players will only put out the 1080i/p signal over HDMI?

Component or HDMI works for either Br or HD. Take your pick.

I can verify that my Toshiba A2 passes 1080i/720p from HD discs via component.

The problem with component is that the player will not pass up-coverted 1080i/720p for most SD DVDs. Since you will probably be watching a lot of regular DVDs for years to come, it would kind of suck to miss out on this feature.
