Toshiba goes below $400 in retail for HD DVD
http://www.dvdtown.com/news/toshibag...forhd-dvd/4365
Quote:
Toshiba HD-DVD A2: $399 (Before: $499)
Toshiba HD-DVD A20: $499 (Before: $599)
Toshiba HD-DVD XA2: $799 (Already effective) (Before: $999)

Already seeing low prices (even at $560 shipped) for the top of line XA2 player. Pretty cool...

Now, if they would only drop another 100.00 off the prices...
I am beginning to think that all players (with maybe the exception of the Pioneer Elite) will all be priced in the 500.00 range soon. From a consumer point of view, very good news no matter what side you support.

Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet) 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

Competition alone will force Pioneer to drop their price or release a much less expensive player for BD & HD DVD.

I certainly could see Pioneer release a BD product under the standard Pioneer badge, but the Elite series has always carried a price tag 2 to 3 time higher than Pioneer's feature equivalent standard product. People that normally buy the Elite line (I am one ) will not bulk at the price.

Re: Toshiba goes below $400 in retail for HD DVD
Has anyone else noticed that the Toshiba HD-A2's price has been dropping all week on Amazon? $339 now, I wonder if we will see $299 next week.
