Please help solve my "problems" with the XA2.
Got the XA2 today, watching Batman Begins, the picture is gorgeous!!! Very happy with the PQ. Now on to the AQ: my receiver doesn't have HDMI, so I connected via 5.1 analogs. The sound is overall underwhelming. I did the speaker selection as "5.1", then inputting the distance of each speaker to my seating position, enable the subwoofer. When doing the automatic test tone (I don't have the Avia disc yet), I found that the loudest setting for all speakers is at 0 db, so that's the level I left them at. Also, using the "Menu" button on the remote, I set the "Language" settings to Dolby TrueHD.
Watching the movie, I had to max out the gain setting on my SVS sub to have comparable effects as before (watching SD DVD movies at 7.1, Dolby Digital speaker setup). As for the rest of the speakers, they're set as "Small" (same as I've always had it). I also had to turn the receiver's volume up higher to get the same sound level.
How do I know if the sound being played is Dolby TrueHD, or Dolby Digital Plus, or anything else? I only see the double D Dolby symbol and "Multi" displayed on the XA2's front panel.
My projector is 720p, should I set the player output at 720p?
Thanks,
Edit: Should I calibrate my speakers with the XA2's Automatic Test Tone, or use my receiver's speaker calibration? I've already done the calibration with the receiver, using an SPL meter. But now I see the manual says to calibrate using the player.
