I find that quite interesting considering how many times you'll drop to derision and personal attacks in the face of arguements against your positions, instead of dealing with the subjects at hand.

I find it very interesting that HD-DVD has such a commanding lead in Europe. I'd have thought there'd be a much stronger BR leaning, especially with all of the negative attention MS's has been getting in Europe lately.
I'll be very interested to see the outcome of the Euro launch on the format war. Does Europe and Australia have high instal bases of HDTV's? Are they more accepting of game machines as Players? I'm not at all in touch with the Euro/Aussie side, and I find Sony's recent activities in Europe interesting. They're really going to great lengths to sell the PS3 there on launch day and I'm trying to understand why. Is that there's a greater X-box tendency there? Is it because of the format war and trying to nudge Europe to BR? Or is it trying to buy favor because they left Europe/Australia high and dry with the initial launch of PS3?
I'm very interested in what occcurs in the next few weeks. I think it'll have some major ramifications for the format war, and even bigger ramifications for the console war.

Ryan, I am not quite sure how to respond this. Point out one post where I personally attacked anyone in this forum, unless attacked first. I don't, and I almost always back up my positions with fact by link to a referenced article. When not available, I tend to state it is opinion.

Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet) 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

This is the reason there is concern over what PS2 games will be supported out of the box, as they will now have to be be software emulated.

Interesting. I'm not sure how the removal of the chips equates to a real cost saving. By that, I mean the cost of chips per machine for PS2 emulation couldn't amount to more than a few cents considering the level of production.
Of course, what the hell do I know about how SONY makes decisions. I'm still trying to figure out how a company that was touting the PS3 as a done-in-one solution for HT and games would fail to provide analog outs, DVD upscaling and, amazingly, no upscaling of 720p game content. All of which, to me, are important for a done-in-one solution.
I don't know how important PS2 emulation is to potential European purchasers, but I cannot see a huge reduction in sales price due to the deletion of a few cents worth of chips. The question I have now is whether later iterations of North American machines will also see deletion of hardware for PS2 emulation?

Re: HD DVD leads Blu-ray in Europe
How about nobody attack anybody here? Let's not let HTF become what AVS has devolved into with it's insane level of nastiness.
We're all in this together, ladies and gents (well, gents mostly) no matter which format we have.

Thomas, here is updated info...
Record-breaking 165,000 PS3s sold at UK launch

New format becomes fastest-selling home console ever over its debut weekend.
ChartTrack has confirmed that 165,000 PS3 units were sold during the console's launch weekend.
The figure is three quarters of the total 220,000 UK launch stock for day one, and makes PS3 second only to PSP in the overall launch weekend sales stakes. The Sony handheld shifted 185,000 in its opening weekend back in September 2005.
PS3’s record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.
The figure also means that Sony has not sold all of its opening weekend stock, something the platform holder claims is part of its overall strategy at retail.
