Samsung announces a HD DVD Laptop

Seems Samsung is covering all bases in the HD format war.

Quote:
Either Samsung can't decide which side of the next-gen optical disc fence they're on or they want to capture every last corner of the market they possibly can. The Samsung M55 multimedia laptop is already available with the Blu-Ray drive, but the Korean electronics giant is sharing some love, now offering the same lappy but with an HD-DVD burner. • Toshiba HD-XA2, HD Add-on, Panasonic DMP-BD10A
  • Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet)
  • 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down
  • New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

Toshiba & Samsung have an optical drive alliance, and this unit is for the Korean market only.
The CE part of Samsung (standalone) is still BD only internationally.
NEC and Sony also have a optical drive partnership, and NEC came out with a BD laptop in Japan.

While they are being marketed currently in Korea and Japan, both will find their way to the US marketplace over the next year or so.
