What not to buy per Philly News Station

I got a call from my wife this morning saying she wanted to know why I bought and HD-DVD player ! After asking what brought that question on she told me to check this out from a show she saw this morning on a Philadelphia morning program.

Re: What not to buy per Philly News Station

One message: Don't buy the first-gen of anything. Wait.

Ooh, big revelation. You don't need an "electronics expert" to draw that conclusion. Fortunately, this Philly station doesn't have one. Typical of the kind of shallow reporting you get on TV news.

Plus, they spelled "Blu-ray" incorrectly and, in the onscreen graphic, made it look like "Blue-ray" was another term for HD DVD.

Pretty poor effort all around.

The minute I saw that this was from a FOX News broadcast I knew that I wasn't going to see anything that qualifies as quality journalism. "FOX News" is an oxymoron to me.

Robert, are there any news stations that are not?

Like anyone working for Fox knows about picture quality. Here's what that station looked like in 1979:

Agreed, Thomas!

TV journalism (at least on the network daily news shows) has taken a giant step backwards in my estimation. An hour "broadcast" contains, maybe, 5 to 10 minutes of actual content. The rest is a combination of fluff and self-promotion. Stuff like, "New health emergency may kill us all within the next five minutes. Stay tuned for details at Eleven!"

Actually, it's a combination of funny and sad at the same time.

Re: What not to buy per Philly News Station

It is sad state of affairs when programs like the Daily Show and Colbert Report are more insightful, interesting, without being outlandish or using scare news, and better informed than the real News media, the ones who are supposed to be providing people with even-handed reporting and insightful commentary.
