Please help a brother out RE: PS3 Blue Ray playback....

Hi guys,

I'm having a weird problem here when I play BD's on the PS3.

I have a Hitachi 57" HDTV that goes up to 1080i, no HDMI as it's 3 years old.

I've configured my PS3 to 1080i and when I do the dash and bd movies display with black wavy lines throughout the screen.

When I downgrade to 720p the lines goes away on the dash but when I play BD movies they automatically downscale to 480p.

I have no problems whatsoever with the xbox 360 and the HDDVD addon. But for some reason this whole wavy line thing with the PS3 has me stumped.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this? I dont see why the PS3 could have this problem when my TV can clearly do 1080i. Thanks in advance.

p.s. I've read about the grounding issue and the scaling issue. I dont think either is the problem. any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I believe there's a firmware fix to resolve this, you may have to search the forums. Good luck!

that's all fine and dandy but the upscaling issue does not address the situation with the black bars on the dashboard or on BD playback.

what's funny is they're not happening all the time. Sometimes you see them there sometimes you dont. And it only happens with 1080i and nothing else.

Any other suggestions??

That does sound strange. So you are using component? Third party cables or Sony? It sounds like something may be wrong with the PS3 or the cables to me.

Does your TV have a DVI input? I believe I remember looking at Hitachi TVs a few years ago that they did. If so you should be able to use a HDMI->DVI cable or adapter.

Or, return your PS3 for another one.
