HD ready tv with no HDMI ports.

I have a Hitachi HD ready projection tv with no HDMI inputs. Is there any way I can connect a HDDVD player with either s-video or optical inputs and still get the HDDVD clarity? Gary

There's no compontent video? I have my Xbox add on hooked up via component video and it looks great.

yes I do have component video but It doesn't seem to work properly. There is no true color, everything is redish looking so I don't use it. I have the rgb cables going from my dvd player into component inputs on the tv. Am I doing something wrong?

I guess I'd double check the connections and then start wondering if my unit was defective in that area somehow. Others might have better ideas.

ok Kurt. I will double check everything. HDDVD will work thru component inputs, did I understand that right?

Yes you did. BR will as well. The 360 HD DVD drive and PS3 included.

You may want to check the color and tint settings for the component input which is too red. The settings may need to be adjusted.

To answer you original question, the only way to get an HD image is via component, DVI, VGA or HDMI.

Re: HD ready tv with no HDMI ports.

You can use S-Video, which is in essence component too.
If you insist on using the RGB outputs, you could at least check the S-Video for the colour problem you experience.

Note that there is one potential problem: SD DVDs having any sort of copy-protection (like MacroVision - most of them therefore) will NOT be upscaled to the highest resolution. HD DVDs are fine, though.

Which model TV do you have? Component video is probably your best choice unless you have a DVI input...then you could get a DVI to HDMI cable.

Re: HD ready tv with no HDMI ports.

You must use the component inputs to get HD from any source on your set, S-video will only get you 480i. Try another set of cables or double check your connections.

I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they\'re properly run in.
