HD-A1 Firmware Update Question

I have a laptop on a wireless connection in my house, is it possible to hook up the A1 via the ethernet port on my laptop to access the internet to update my A1, I know in the manual they wanted a hard connection directly at the wall or router, thanks

Re: HD-A1 Firmware Update Question

You might try the Linksys Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge connected directly to the A-1. I have not personally tried it but I read in some forum a while back that it worked ok. Personally, I would rather wait for the update disks from Toshiba.

Re: HD-A1 Firmware Update Question

Cole,

I didn't try this myself. But I think you can use the wireless connection to be "shared": right click on 'My Network Places', choose 'Properties'. Then in the Network Connections window, right click on your wireless connection, choose 'Properties' again.
Now go to the 'Advanced' tab and check the box under 'Internet Connection Sharing' saying "Allow other users to connect through this computer's Internet connection'. Click 'OK', etc.

I think that will work on your laptop too, just like I used that for years on a regular desktop PC. I used two normal TCP/IP connectors on that computer, so the difference is (1) using the wireless connection (2) using a laptop.

But I can't see why it wouldn't work. Make sure your HD-A1 receives an IP address from your laptop (by default it will) and is set as such (by default it will too ), or else you will have to set everything by hand.

Good luck and please let us know if you succeeded!
