Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

I had issues with Madden before the add on and I had them after. So I believe its the game and not the add on. My other friends who have the 360 and Madden all say that they have had issues with their games not being able to finish, however it doesnt happen every time.

Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

Finally got the new computer built, and resaved up enough to get Power DVD Ultra.

King Kong plays like a charm, compared to how it did on my old Athalon 64 series chip, where it wouldn't even get past the logo. Here, however... plays smooth....and even though I don't think my system can decode the new sound setup, it sounds great! Even on a low setting it shakes up the house!

Does the picture look any better on a DVI or HDMI cable?

Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

Well, thanks to everyone on this board and all your fantastic information, I have made the plunge into HD DVD. I went to Best Buy tonight and bought an XBox 360 and the HD DVD player to go along with it. Set up was a snap and King Kong looks really good. I am going tomorrow to get the Monster cables for it as the ones that come with the unit are pretty cheap. I have it set up on my Mitsu 65 HDTV 1080i for now but I will be adding it to my home theater once I get my new cables. I will be plugging it into my Sony VPL VW100 SXRD. I can't wait to see it in full 1080P. I have even replaced my Blockbuster que with all HD movies. This is the reason I built my Theater in the first place.

Thanks everyone!!

A Question for the folks who have purchased and are using the Monster Cables. Are you all going direct to your display with the components? I am currently thinking about ordering these but will any benefits they potentially bring be negated by routing through either my Denon AVR 3802 or my Psyclone switch?

Thanks!

Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

I just purchased my 360 with the HD DVD player and I love it. However, the question I cannot seem to get answered is...What kind of audio and I going to get with the optical cable? I really want to get the DDHD and DTSHD. Will I hear this if I use the optical? Or is this just with HDMI or analog? I am getting the Monster cables tomorrow and will be hooking it up to my Sony VPL VW100.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I bought this unit instead of the new HD XA2.

Thanks,

Don

I don't understand. No one can benefit from the TrueHD on the XBOX 360 because you can not properly receive the signal through non-HDMI cables.

As far as I've read, the XBOX down-codes everything to Dolby Digital 5.1, and there have been several sound related issues with it.

But nothing is mentioned on here about this problem. Picture quality is fantastic on the HD-DVD add-on, but the sound is horrendous.

I hear the difference - TrueHD track is louder for one.
However, bass is certainly affected on the 360 (not as dynamic). Microsoft needs a fix pronto!

Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

I agree about the bass. I just installed mine with the cables provided to my theater and while the picture was great the bass was almost non existent.

I got the Monster cables with the optical cable but could not get any sound. What am I doing wrong? I plugged in the opt cable to opt 6 on my denon 5800 and went into setup and told it that my DVD channel was opt 6. While I got video on that channel I never got any sound. I tried other opt channels but still no sound. I have the XBOX set up for 5.1 and it worked when I used the supplied cables, turned off the opt input and plugged in the analog red/white audio cables. But then the sound was just OK.

Any suggestions or did I just get a bad set of cables?

Never mind. I'm an idiot. I looked at the opt port that I was using and it was the wrong one. Now I have it all working and it looks and sounds great. I actually like the sound in KK better when I put my Denon to 7.1. WOW!! The T Rex scene and the Planes are incredible. Now I am off to BB to pick up Superman. I am officially hooked!!!!

Re: Official XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on Review Thread

I recently connected the HD-DVD player to my system. I have been please with the performance to cost ratio.

Along with the add on I also have a PS3. I have had no issues with the PS3, nuf said.

Microsoft seems to have made a fantastic marketing decision that many "gamers" and critics seem to have overlooked. Keep the console price down and offer the HD-DVD as an add on. Many of my relatives that were unable to find a Wii opted for the Premium 360 offering and purchasing extra games and accessories.

I love the fact this is an add on. The unit has been taken the player to friends houses to watch movies.

The HD DVD add on, the media center interface, and gameplay the Xbox 360 offers more flexibility and options than the Playstation 3 sitting right next to it.

When the HDMI box comes out My son will inherit the current box.

I have a rather dumb question....you say the add on has been taken to friends homes to watch movies etc....can this be hooked up to any TV? Just curious? Sounds too good to be true.
