Yeah, I just bought into the Sammy BD last month and have stuck with the newer releases and I've had really no issue with the PQ, especially after the FW upgrade.

I haven't really noticed any sluggishness with the menus, actually... MUCH faster than the Sammy! I'm not, however, using the Panny remote anymore. I programmed my universal remote to control the Panny. Maybe you are just having a remote issue?
BTW, the promo code for the Panny DVD offer is: 5366859L
You will also need your player's serial number.

Haha. I don't think that was quite the point.
But didn't it turn out it DOES have the feature to disable the video circuitry for audio playback. Seems to me he found the feature later.
|
I think what he might have been referring to was the HDMI 2-way communication feature: if the TV was on, it sends a "note" back to the player that it is activated so the player keeps its video section powered up. I read a post here last month by another member saying that when he turned off their TV when their DVR was recording an HD channel, the cable box (also connected via HDMI to the TV) shut itself off......or something like that. This system resembles JVC's "CompuLink" and Pioneer's own system control feature but only works with their own gear.

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD10
I may just end up giving the Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray Player a chance if the Sony and or the Pioneer does not come out with internal decoding and or HDMI 1.3. I can't believe that both of these players have been pushed back yet again. I hope there is a good excuse and that we will be rewarded with the features that should have been included to begin with. That is the only way at this point for me to run out and purchase a Sony or Pioneer Blu-ray player. If nether player offers internal decoding and 7.1 analog outputs then its the Panasonic for me. If I do not purchase the Panasonic then I will wait for the HDMI 1.3 models to be available.

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD10
It amazes me; the way Sony and Pioneer keep pushing things back their competitiors will have 2nd gen. machines out before they put out their 1st. Maybe they're going to try to offer more or be competitive with those 2nd gen machines, but if they're not careful it could backfire and the competition will know just what they have to do to their 2nd gen players to totally blow away Sony and Pioneer.
I'm just glad the Panasonic seems to be setting an early benchmark after the Samsung surely didn't.
I hadn't put much thought into future 7.1 formats before, but now that I realized my receiver IS 7.1 capable, I definitely want 7.1 analog outs too.
Uncompressed PCM is a great offering as it is, but I can certainly see why they'd want some compression, even with the new, more efficient video codecs. If we start seeing 7.1 titles that would be asking for a lot of space if they were handled uncompressed.
I DO hope the PS3 succeeds in giving Blu-Ray a much needed boost because my mouth is really watering. Of course even when prices start to fall, I'm going to have to secure that second job to pay for my new toy.

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD10
I re-viewed Stargate last night using the Panasonic and the film went went from unwatchable, comfortably (!), to not bad, for this unevenly shot film. The Samsung left sheets of noise in all scenes. Sometimes it was just overwhelming. It's now very watchable....

So, Rachael, have you gotten your Samsung back yet and does it have the 1.0 firmware update in it?

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD10
Am looking throught the owners manual right now and its interesting.

Other Formats:

Component Video: 1080i/720p/480p/480i
Audio Performance -
Frequency Response:
DVD Linear Audio 2Hz-22KHz (48kHz Sampling)
DVD Linear Audio 2Hz-44KHz (96kHz Sampling)
DVD Audio 2Hz-88KHz (192kHz Sampling)
CD Audio 2Hz-20KHz

HDMI AV Output
Output Format
Video 1080p/1080i/730p/480p
Audio 192kHz/96kHz/48kHz/44.1kHz
And it looks like it will do LPCM as well so maybe I should give this player a closer look? Has anyone tried to play a DTS-HD disc on this player yet converting it to LPCM? I actually prefer the look of the Sony, Pioneer and even the Samsung over the Panasonic. I need to see this player in the flesh before actually deciding its a bad looking player. I was looking foward to a Pioneer, Sony or Denon Bluray player when I heard Bluray was coming.
If I do buy the Panasonic player I hope the audio upgrade is made available really soon. Some features I really like are upgradable to Dolby True HD and DTS-HD, 7.1 analog outputs, LPCM and DVD-Audio playback. At least I can listen to my DVD-A's until I have HDMI on my reciever so I can use my Denon DVD-2200 again for DVD-A.
Possible HT configuration upgrade

I hope it comes back soon. I'm planning to rearrange my upstairs system and insert the Samsung in it. Really, I'm too busy playing with the Panasonic to care exactly what day the Samsung comes back.
