Samsung BD-P1000 user manual online

Just saw the report on Engadget.com that the user manual (in PDF) has surfaced on the Samsung website. Haven't gotten a chance to read through the whole thing yet but it doesn't appear to contain anything too shocking.

Re: Samsung BD-P1000 user manual online

just reading through it, found this interesting on page 24..

Discs which cannot be played and/or are
not intended to be played with this player.
• HD DVD • DVD+RW • DVD+R
• CD-ROM • CVD
• CD-I
• Super Audio CD(except CD layer)
• CDGs play audio only, not graphics.
Ability to play back may depend on recording conditions.
• DVD-R
• CD-RW
• DVD-RW (V mode)
• The unit may not play certain CD-R,
CD-RW and DVD-R due to the disc type
or recording conditions.

Why not DVD+R or DVD+RW ?? ..and 'may' not play CD-R

Good point Hank. I'm not sure I understand why +R and +RW aren't supported... are there two separate lasers in the Samsung player for reading the DVD and BD discs? If so then I would assume that they could use a red laser capable of reading + discs. Odd... not a deal breaker for me as I've mainly used dash/minus discs, but odd none the less.

Hey Chris, nice sig! I remember when I posted that.

I think they're just trying to cover their asses with all of the different types of CD-R's out there. I occasionally run into one that won't play on my DVD player.

not sure who to believe (but I'm guessing the manual probably over-rides a website)

from Onecall on the Samsung P1000. Here is says it accepts +RW, +R

Progressive Scan Yes
Remote Control Multi-Brand TV Compatible Jog/Shuttle, Included

It is possible that both things are true: The player will accept CD +R, + RW, but that some of those disks may not play—just like with some CD players (as already noted) on some +R, +RW disks.

I was under the impression there's no such thing as CD+R and that distinction only applies to DVDs.

There isn't a plus format for CD. I'm pretty sure Lew meant CD-R and CD-RW.
