Looking for a Pioneer Elite DVL 91 Unit

Hi-

I am interested in purchasing a DVL 91 laser disc/DVD player. Anyone out there selling one and interested in talking with me?

I have quite a few Laser Disc's that have been neglected, and I would like to find a good player for them.

Also interested in anyone's insight on this unit.

Thanks!

Re: Looking for a Pioneer Elite DVL 91 Unit

Hello Jack,

Sorry for not noticing your thread sooner friend,

I actually own 2 of these machines and they are brand new, but unfortunately i will not be parting with them ''sorry''

I live in the UK and started the AV hobby way back in April of 1998 and at that time i noticed one of these players in a Laserdisc shop.

I became hocked on the Pioneer ELITE brand from that day onwards.

The DVL 91's are reliable players and the picture quality and electronics are on par with the CLD 79, which by all accounts that i have read was a good player.

The player that came before the CLD 91 was the CLD 90 and this was lacking the same quality and features.

Look on ebay Jack as Century Hi Fi has one for sale ''bit pricy though for a US buyer'' but not so bad for us in the UK to import his price is $875.
For me to purchase this player it would cost aprox £460 and the shipping would be about £100+

I would seriously go for a DVL-91 and just use this as a Laserdisc player only, less ware and tear on the player.

I am in the process of purchasing an HLD X9 from a friend in the UK.
Then in September i shall be paying for a brand New Pioneer Elite CLD 97 from the USA. (i am a Laserdisc Fanatic and a serious collector.) I must be Mad!!

What do you think Jack? ''maybe i need help''

I do purchase DVD's and enjoy them, but prefere the handling of Laserdisc's and the cover art, also the sound of the players is a buzz for me.

Pioneer have said that they will be servicing Laserdisc players for some time to come, so plenty of spare parts!

Jack i am a regular person with a regular job who just happens to get a kick out of the Laserdisc format.

Look forward to hearing from you and hope that what i have explained helps in some way in your purchase of a laserdisc player.

Let me know how you get on.

Genuine and honest regards

Mark

Mark-
Thanks for your kind reply. I am still looking and hope to find one at a reasonable price. I saw the one on Ebay, but really believe I can find one at least a few hundred dollars cheaper, if not better.

I have approximately 150 laser discs that have been languishing in a cabinet receiving no use. I have a Pioneer CLD-59 that I take out of the closet and hook up to my DVR from time to time when I get an itch to watch one of my LD's. I believe if I got a combo player and had it hooked directly into my Home Theater I would be more inclined to use the LD format. It would be so much more convenient.

In your opinion, do you believe the video and audio output is significantly better with this player? Do I need to be aware of any special set up instructions?

I have traded in a TV for a Runco DLP video projector. My screen is approximately 110" . I am curious how this player will look on the "Big Screen".

Let me know what you think. I too am just a normal person who happens to want a high quality viewing experience when I view movies.

Hi Jack,

I have a Marantz LV-510 LD player for sale in my "Various AV Gear" thread here. Not quite on the level of the 91 but still a very respectable machine, especially in the audio department. It'd also make a good backup player for the money. If this post is too off topic, feel free to delete; just passing on to any of the remaining LDers out there.

Hello Jack,

Good to read your thread friend.

The setup on the player is very simple and the only thing you may need to worry about is if your screen is 50inch or more.

If this is the case then maybe a video processor will help, but that depends on what setup you already have.

The time here now is 07:46 and i am about to go home from work.
I shall reply to your message this evening when i return at 18:30

Genuinely look forward to hearing from you friend.

Regards

Mark

Re: Looking for a Pioneer Elite DVL 91 Unit

Hello Jack,

Time now in the UK is 19:06 and started work at 18:05.

How has your day been?

Jack have you tried Laserdisc Service on the web? as this gentleman is very reasonable on fully refurbished players (and i mean from top to bottom service.) his name is Duncan Sales@laserdiscservice.com

Also Jack try Pioneer US service centres on the pioneer site as they may have a service centre not far from yourself, plus they may know someone who has a DVL 91 for sale.

Duncan' is based in the US give him a try and see what he has to offer.

Look forward to hearing from yourself friend.

Genuine regards

Mark

Re: Looking for a Pioneer Elite DVL 91 Unit

Hey Mark-

Sorry to hear you have to work all night- Hopefully some of the money earned can go towards that HLD X-9! I've read about them. Expensive machines. Wouldn't mind stumbling over one of those myself!

I've been in touch with Duncan, and he is a real possibility for help! He has 2 we are talking about, so progress is being made.

My main concern is making sure that the unit can be used in my current set-up. My Home theater has been installed by a local service, and I think they are going to have to come out to make sure this get's done right. I'm a little skittish about disconnecting anything or trying to install something new.

You mentioned a Video processor. What does that do? Is it like a line doubler?

Well- Hope all is well for you as you go through your day.

Hiya Jack,

Do not be sorry, as i enjoy working nights (i enjoy the peace and quiet away from the politics.)

I love carrying out external patrols of the grounds, a time for reflection and meditation whilst walking.

The extra money is going directly on the HLD X9.
The friend who i am purchasing from, lives about 370 miles away and was good enough to reserve this player for about 6 months for me.

The asking price is £1.500 + about 6 laserdisc titles, an analogue to digital converter / refresh box which takes away most of the grain when displayed on a large s
