Changes in Forum images...

Parker:

What kind of voodoo are you up to with regard to the images hosted on the forum?

You can click on them now and have a variety of options?

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

You can even go into "slideshow" mode. Parker must be bored at work.

They're using Highslide:

Highslide JS - JavaScript thumbnail viewer

A similar, but free, lightbox that I like is
Facebox 1.2
The next version will have a "next" and "previous" option, but there are no plans for all the other tricks that Highslide offers.

Hey Parker...

Just in case you've missed it...some of the code from the images program is showing up in a "banner" near the bottom of thread pages. See the center of the screen grab below:

I don't know why that shows up like that but if you click on an image in the thread that goes away.

Re: Changes in Forum images...

Am I the only one experiencing complete web browser lockups lasting from 10 to 30 seconds due to some incompatibility with this change ?

The last time that I was here using this browser within the last few days, everything was fine. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.15 on a pc running Windows XP.

Tonight, as soon I move the mouse pointer anywhere inside an image (.jpg, .png, .gif images), the following occurs ...
- the mouse pointer permanently turns into a magnifying glass with a plus-sign inside the magnifying glass
- in the Task Manager, the cpu utilization immediately shoots up to 99%
- the whole browser literally locks up ... During this lockup, sometimes I can still move the mouse pointer; while at other times during the lockup I can't even move the mouse pointer. I have to open up Task Manager and shut down Firefox
- this website is the only site where I'm experiencing this
- as long as I keep the mouse from touching an image, the web browser is fine while visiting this site
- if I go into Tools > Options > Content and turn OFF "Load images automatically", the web browser is fine while visiting this site

Tonight this site is the only place where I'm experiencing this problem; all other websites are running fine.

Re: Changes in Forum images...

One by one I turned off the Firefox extensions that I use. At this moment I think I've narrowed the suspects down to one extension that is conflicting with this forum's new image feature.

The extension is called "Browse Images" (I'm using the latest version 0.4.1). After I go in to Firefox Tools > Add-ons and click the "Disable" button for this extensions, close Firefox, and then re-load this website, I no longer have the lockups when I move the mouse pointer over an image.

If I re-enable "Browse Images" extension, close Firefox, and then re-load this website, .. bam .. lockups.

I've been using this "Browse Images" extension since at least January of this year, and I've never before experienced this problem. And I've been using the latest version of this extension for awhile and have not so far experienced this problem prior to tonight.

Mathew:

I haven't been experiencing the lockup in Firefox but I have also upgraded to 3.0 too. I will look into this issue and fix it if possible. If I can't find a fix I will remove it as I don't want people having their browser lock up because of a script.
