Multiple threads in sale/trade forums?

This afternoon, a member posted five separate threads within 35 minutes of each other in the Software FS/T forum. I have my settings set to display 20 threads/page (the forum default). Those five threads represent 1/4 of the first-page threads, on the default setting. That seems a bit excessive, IMO.

Can there be a rule implemented limiting the number of active sale/trade threads a member can have in those forums? For example, maybe a maximum of one thread per disc format (i.e. one thread for DVDs, one for HD DVD, one for Blu-ray) in the SW forum?

It doesn't seem fair for other members' sale/trade threads to be knocked down in the list/off the page simply because another wants to post so many threads.

Was this ever discussed amongst the staff, or is it not being considered?

Re: Multiple threads in sale/trade forums?

They were basically different. It's not against the rules, this way, strictly speaking, but indeed could be viewed as a little (too) dominant.

However, because all of them were also "bumped" by the OP several times (which is in violation of our rules), most of them have been closed.

Apart from that, we do not discuss corrective measures, taken against members personally, on the open forum, of course.

Cees

Edit: Upon request of the OP, three of the offending threads were now deleted. One was concluded, another one is still active. Things seem back to normal, I guess.

I think you misunderstood my original post, Cees.

I wasn't posting specifically about that member - just using that situation as a basis/example for proposing a new rule limiting the number of threads a member can have in the sale/trade forums. I only posted the links to those threads at Parker's request.

My intention for this thread was to get a discussion of implementing the new rule.

Re: Multiple threads in sale/trade forums?

Scott,

We're hesitant to create more and more specific rules, unless we feel that the problem arises frequently enough to go that route.

Rest assured that we will judge posting behaviour on a constant basis, and also that dominant/aggressive manners will be discouraged.

No, we haven't concluded yet that a new rule to this effect is necessary now. But your suggestion is well taken.

That's all I wanted to know.

Thanks.
