Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
When I came to the HTF just a few minutes ago, a popup window came up and told me that I had a new private message (and I could tell it was a real one based on the title of the PM), but when I went to my Inbox, it wasn't there.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
I noticed something odd in another thread, and want to see if it happens here.
It did.
This was NOT a double post. I posted one message, and then I posted a new message.
But because there was no poster between my two posts, it got viewed as a double post, and was merged into one.
This happened in another thread where I posted, and an entire day later posted a followup, that got merged as if it were a double-post.
I don't think this is how it's supposed to work, and if so, it's very disconcerting to have two distinct posts merged into one, even if they're days apart, when no one posted between them.
"Movies should be like amusement parks. People should go to them to have fun." - Billy Wilder
"Subtitles good. Hollywood bad." - Tarzan, Sight & Sound 2012 voter.
"My films are not slices of life, they are pieces of cake." - Alfred Hitchcock

I just had this same popup. Mine had no Subject or Sender listed. Just yesterday I had zeroed out my private messages. The ones I had stored were no longer readable, they had sender names and subjects but no message, so I sent them to the cornfield.
After this mornings popup I went back to check PMs but their count was still zero.

Yep, getting the popups about PMs too...In my box I have a list of subjects/senders, but they're all empty. What's funny, this is what it says at the top of the forum...

I seem to be able to login from my computer at work......but I can't on my home computer. As Parker mentioned to me by email that it could be a cookie problem, I cleared them from my computer......but I still can't gain access. It gives me the welcome screen but goes back to the login screen right after that.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
This double-post thing is actually more troublesome that I originally thought.
My post this morning in another thread got merged into the previous day's post, as if it were an edit.
What that meant, was in the forum list, the thread had not been moved up, and all indications were there was no activity since yesterday.
That means whenever someone posts after themself, no one will know that a new post has occured.

"Subtitles good. Hollywood bad." - Tarzan, Sight & Sound 2012 voter.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
george, I think that is a setting in VB. I know it is in InvisionBoard forums. Admins can set it so that, for example, a reply made within 15 minutes will get merged with your previous post in that thread. Maybe that is set incorrectly here?? I don't like that setting no matter what the time limit is. All new replies should show up as individual replies in my opinion. Of course, I am only assuming that is the case here. It could be a glitch or something.

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
George:
I had the number set to high. Now the number of minutes before a post is merged together is only 5 minutes. I have this set to cut down on double posting. 5 minutes between when you last post in a thread until you can post again without it getting merged into the first post is not that long of time to wait and it cuts down on douplicates.
I am working on the private messages function with the authors of the software. Hopefully we will get this resolved soon.
I am not sure what is going on with the new build of Firefox. It is causing all sorts of problems. If I use Netscape 8.1 and have it display this site as Firefox it works just fine. Which is odd since the use the same basic engine.

Same thing is happening with these threads:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=213685
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=201019
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=158309

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...ad.php?t=33240
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=103165
All these threads contain long individual posts, possibly this is the reason they are being abbreviated??

Re: Report all forum software problems in this thread ONLY. Thank You!
Parker,
Thanks. While I sometimes post within 5 minutes, that's not a real problem. It was the longer times that were worrisome.
Thanks for all your hard work on the upgrade. Despite a few inevitable glitches, it's working remarkably well.
