MASSIVE discussion threads

Hi. I'm sorry if this has been brought up before, but some of these massive discussion threads (star wars) are impossible to keep track of. I posted in the Star Wars III one, and by next morning there were over 150 replies!

Can I make a suggestion? Why not create specialist sub-forums for these major movies?

I know it might mean having a number of subforums, but at least they would all be in the one place.

There are so many aspects that people want to discuss, and these massive threads often have topic repeats as people don't want to read through 20 pages to see if the topic has already been mentioned.

Thanks.

Darren.

Do you really think people would be more likely to read through those 20 pages if they were 20 separate threads?

The problem isn't the organizational structure; it's the posting volume. Creating subforums wouldn't make it easier to find individual posts, but it would substantially increase the work of managing HTF. We've considered this issue many times, and the current system, while not without its problems, remains the best of the available options.

I know it can be a chore wading through hundreds of posts, but I like it how it is. I like that all Star Wars posts are limited to a few topics. The sheer volume of replies is what (to me) makes HTF great. There are so many people with so many different opinions/insights to add to the discussion. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Isn't the point that they wouldn't read through those twenty pages, but just the threads/"subtopics" that would interest them?

Michael, the posting volume works both ways. If I were to ask a question and it didn't get answered until 150 posts later, who would care? I think that was what he meant.

However, the other side is to think about how many different threads you would/could have. No matter how many catagories you can come with, someone else can come up with another one, and sooner or later, you're going to get one that crosses over between two different threads.

This has already happened with DVD/Blu-Ray and the merger between the two. The merger thread shouldn't have happened, but so goes life!
