Good question. I probably will be it will be a major headache with all the add ons that I have put into play with this version of the software. I know a lot of people that are not going to be upgrading for that very reason.

Parker,
The upgrade process will get better and faster as time goes on. 3.01 has just been released, and some say the upgrade was much faster than 3.0 Gold. Gold's upgrade was quicker than the previous RC, so the upgrade process improves with each new version. I know the HTF is a very large board, and that it would take a long time to upgrade, but a vb2 to vb3 converter should come out soon, so that you wouldn't have to go through the upgrade process at all. Just install vb3 in a seperate directory, and import. This method wouldn't requre making changes to the database. It would also decrease the amount of time the forum has to be closed during the upgrade.
In my opinion, it would be very beneficial to upgrade the forum, but it is not something that is needed immediately. I hope it can be done in the next 5 or 6 months if possible. The differences between vB 2.3 and vB 3.01 are almost as much of an improvement as the differences between the UBB we used to use and vB 2! Also, many hacks you have installed have already been incorporated into vB 3. One such hack is the quick reply feature. The features I like most about vB3 are the MUCH improved vBcode panel, and the much improved layout. But the vBcode panel is worth it's weight in Gold!

Also if they've improved the HTML output, which I believe they have, it could save you guys quite a bit of bandwidth per page.

Joshua:
Yeah, I am waiting on the vB2 to vB3 converter to come out. That way I would just make another database on the server, import all the info and go from there.
I don't check out vbulletin.com that often so if you see a vB2 to vB3 converter listed that appears to be doing its job let me know.

The vb2 to vb3 converter has been released. They will still be testing it for a while, to make sure it's functioning, but it's working. The thread has not been updated in a while, so vb2 is not listed, but it has been released. The thread below contains the instructions for using the importer.
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101630
Hopefully the importer will work fine. If not, there is a bug report secion on vb.com that you can use to report bugs for the importer.
A few of the new features I forgot to mention before: A dropdown menu bar for often used features, such as search, edit profile, edit options, send private message, and so forth. This bar is incorporated into the top of every page, and is very very useful. I hate having to always go back to the forum home page when trying to do some of these tasks.
They have enabled fulltext searching for the most current version, and that should speed up the search function, as well as reduce server load. It's in beta form right now, but should be properly released with the next version.
