Is it possible or would it be proper to have an OFFICIAL RIP thread, so we can keep track of all the celebrities that pass away.
have a date of birth and date of death and maybe even a reason for death.

Sometimes its hard to remember who passes away when we come later on in the year, and its nice to remember.

Then if it's okay, can we have a MOD change it to the OFFICIAL title thread

AND I apologize, I meant for this to be in the MOVIE section, Ididn't realize

yeah i think this is a good idea, it seems that the RIP threads are always being posted all over the place, then the mods have to close the rest. but if people knew to post in the 'official' thread, it would save the mods time and the readers too.

I'm not against the idea, but not especially
keen on it for any other reason that I'm not
sure such an ongoing thread is necessary.

Look....

We are YOUR forum. I'll be more than
happy to put this idea in motion, but I want to
know how to best implement it.

Where should such a thread be posted (in what area)?

How long do we keep it a sticky thread at the
top of that forum area? You realize some people
don't like permanent sticky threads in forum areas.

More importantly, because it will become a
permanent fixture, how large do we allow it to get
before we start new "RIP" sticky threads?

Finally, is this really a necessity for this forum?
It's nice to hear one or two people float this
idea around, but it would be more reassuring if
there was a larger demand for such a thread.

As one who loves obits and often posts them in HTF (Jan Berry yesterday) I'd like to vote, NO.
Musicians go in MUSIC, actors in MOVIES, other folks in AFTER HOURS.
When Spalding Gray went missing we would not have had him in an obit thread, that confirmation came two months later, so we would have had to start in again in the Official Sanctioned They're Toast Thread.
I'd rather not mix in Johhny Cash with the bass player from F*c* Yer Momma. (I made that up)
This problem does not exist, don't try to fix it.

probably not, but i think it would make the jobs easier of the kind people who run the forum. it could be another sub-forum under 'other distractions' maybe, or stickied under after hours or somewhere else. it would help if more people were exposed to this question, maybe more people would not want it to happen. i think it would save people time, i could be wrong.

Wouldn't obits be the perfect thing for News, on the index page? It would mean more work for admins, but if an obit is posted, a link to it could go on the index page for, say, a week... regardless of whether the deceased was an actor, musician, producer... you could find it on the index page.

... just a thought.

John wants HTF to be a searchable obituary column.

Christ thinks a change would make things easier for the Mods..

The method we use now seems fine to me, we separate the deceased as best we can by TV, Movies, Music and Other (After Hours)....the thread floats near the top just like any other, as long as interest (grief) is fresh.
Perhaps if we always use the word "OBIT" in the title it will be more searchable for those that want that. But doesn't IMDB or the New York Times provide a better and more comprehensive source for such information?
